Lighted Christmas parade forms due

Great leaders don’t set out to be good leaders. They set out to make a difference.
Entries for the Home for the Holidays Lighted Christmas Parade are due Monday, Nov. 20. Forms are available on the chamber’s FB page or at the newspaper in Basin. Christmas lights are going up all over town. Please get yours up before Nov. 25 for the annual Home for the Holidays in Basin. If you need lights, the chamber has plenty. Just give us a call.

All different terms that mean to be grateful, to show gratitude, to let someone know that you appreciate them or something they have done for you, but I decided with the help of a Bible concordance to see what these different terms mean in the Bible. Just an exercise that I challenged myself to do in an effort to bring my heart and mind into a more grateful state of mind. I learned some really interesting things.

These days I am supposed to wake up an hour later than I was a couple of weeks ago. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say that I am supposed to wake up at exactly same time, except that exactly the same time is now an hour later. It is somewhat confusing.

Dear Editor:
Democracies matter. It doesn’t matter theoretically or in an abstract thought from our founding fathers. Last week Tuesday showed us it matters.
Today you can vote against abortion. You can say in any state like Ohio, we are not going to punish women, as the former guy said. We are not going to punish doctors, nurses or medical staff. The people of Ohio along with six other states said, “No, we want to keep access to abortion legal and we don’t like what you are doing.”

As the one-year anniversary of the closing of Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home has just gone by, I feel it is important to share what we, as members of the Greybull and Basin communities, have lost.

A good neighbor is worth their weight in gold

Shortly after moving into our new home and before my husband purchased his tractor, we were struggling to control the long grass and weeds on our place. My husband did his best with our riding mower, but it took a long time. One day while my spouse was zooming around with the mower to clear our left pasture, our neighbor appeared in his tractor to mow our right pasture. He didn’t say a word. He just jumped right in and with our neighbor’s generosity the job was finished in no time. That is a good neighbor.

The Cook's Corner: Proper hunting attire … or not!

Over the years hunting attire has changed and adapted to hunters, advertisements and style. Back when my grandparents hunted elk in the thoroughfare and on Haymaker in the Greybull River drainage, the proper attire was regular clothes, often with a union suit underneath and topped by wool pants and a heavy coat. There was no regulation requiring any safety orange at that time.

Halloween is over. It is time to hang Christmas lights. Once again, we are hoping each business in Basin will hang lights so they can be seen from our main streets. Homes, too! Wanting them up before Home for the Holidays on Nov. 25. If you need lights, we have plenty. Let us Light Up Basin! Call 307-568-3055.

Dear Editor:
My dear friends in the Republican party, here is a new head scratcher that I am calling funny math.  You talk of fiscal responsibility but do not walk the walk. It took our country 210 years to go into debt of 8 trillion dollars, but only took your party four years to add 8 trillion dollars, which automatically added 2 trillion dollars to our debt because the rich got the largest tax breaks. Hmmm ... fiscal responsibility.  

Standing up against hate is what is good and right

It is disgusting what is happening in the United States because of the war in Israel. The war is bad enough. Our troops being targeted in the Middle East is a family’s worst nightmare.
While there is little or nothing we can do about those issues. we can   stop hate from popping up in Wyoming like it is in other parts of the U.S.  Standing up is what good people do. It is what is right to do.  
Jews, Palestinians, and Muslims are being threated, beaten and targeted in America.
