September 30, 1926

At the last meeting of Marion Tanner Post, American Legion, the post appointed a committee to take up with the city council the matter of putting water on the cemetery and thus make possible the beatifying of the grounds. They urge that the cemetery funds be used for this purpose. 

Mr. Jacob Brunk brought down from the W.B. Curtis ranch on Saturday a Bermuda onion which measured 16½ inches in circumference. 

Uncle Sim Cockins returned Sunday from Des Moines, to which place he went to attend the national encampment of the G.A.R. 

Mr. and Mrs. Geo B. Cooper returned Sunday from Denver, where Mr. Cooper had spent a number of days looking after business matters. They drove back one of the latest styles of Ford cars. A demonstration car which Mr. Cooper will be glad to show any one who is interested.

September 27, 1951

Five members of the chapter of Future Farmers of America, accompanied by Instructor James R Durkee, left Wednesday morning for Laramie to attend the state Future Farmers judging meet. Dick Cropsey, Sam Sabam, Franklin McNeal, Norman Ruffing, and Dale Perkins made the trip. 

Twenty-two calves, 16 lambs, and nine swine were sold at the annual 4-H and F.F.A livestock sale held in Greybull last Tuesday evening according to Arvil D. Ashment county agricultural agent. The average prices paid per hundred-weight were beef, $39.50; sheep, $36.50 and swine, $2139.

Diversion of water into the Big Horn canal will cease on October 5, it was announced this week by H.H. Robertson, canal company superintendent. The act will terminate the 1951 irrigation season. The bureau of reclamation intends to close Boysen dam on that date to begin filling the reservoir by cutting off the Big Horn river to a minimum flow.

September 30, 1976

Mr. and Mrs. Glen W. “Bill” Davis announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter Deborah Carole, to Ronald Lee Robbins, son of Master Sergeant and Mrs. Eugene Robbins of Lubbock, Texas. 

Avery Jones of Basin, a trumpet player with the 130 member Ferris State College marching band of Big Rapids Michigan, performed at the Chicago Bears-Atlanta Falcons NFL football game in Chicago. 

Rain and drizzle covered the countryside over the weekend halting the bean harvest completely. Weather conditions continued to be damp Monday morning and fog enveloped the Basin-Greybull area slowing traffic to a snail’s pace.

The Big Horn County Library is $10,000 richer thanks to Bette and Bob Jaedicke and the donation give to the library in honor of her father Adam Hartman, on the occasion of his 90th birthday in May, and her mother, Madonna Batenhorst Hartman. Both Adam and Madonna have called the Big Horn Basin their home for 80-plus years. 

Big Horn Counseling Services is settling into their new facility after their move last week. The new building was built on land donated by Security State Bank with a grant of $187,000 from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. The town of Basin provided the utility service.
