Hello from the Basin Library
What a busy summer! With the BHC fair and election information, our August article missed being printed. Here is a run-down of September activities and a summary of July and August.
September is back to school, so here at the library we’ll be focused on what amazing things you can learn from books! It’s time for an ALL NON-FICTION BOOK CHALLENGE! Fun for all ages. September isn’t too early to get ready for Halloween! Expect some spooky crafting this month.
We are still collecting Lynn’s Superfoods of Greybull grocery receipts. Our local P.E.O. chapter is helping us gather the $1,000 in receipts for a $100 donation. We are so close!
Adult Book Club meets the last Wednesday of the month at 3:00 p.m. This month we will be discussing “Under the Tulip Tree” by Michelle Shocklee. September’s book is “Stranded” by Mathew Mayo.
The activities never stop at our library. Friday afternoon clubs and story time are active all year long. You can check out the schedule for Lego, Chess, board games, and art club on our Facebook page Big Horn County Library-Basin or our website https://www.bhcwylibrarysystem.org/.
We still have some craft items that kids left after our summer activities, just waiting to be picked up.
In July, Trista used Greek mythology monsters to inspire the Lego Club members’ imagination in creating their dual-animal hybrids. They made some pretty impressive animals You’ll have to show up on the 4th Friday of the month at 2:00 p.m. to find out what we’re building each month!
We celebrated the USA 250th birthday, along with Wyoming statehood of 135 years. Thank you to the Big Horn County Library Foundation for their generous donation that funded all our activities during July. Our reading challenge was based on the founding of our country, with lots of new books. The Story Time kids celebrated WY statehood day with a picnic. Since it was near 100 degrees outside, we opted to have an inside feast instead.
“The game is afoot” at the Basin Library! August is Sherlock Holmes inspired Mystery Month. Our Fridays were full of “Who, What, and Where” detective activities. We even had a Crime Scene Mystery Afternoon on the August 14 with “Someone Broke in the Library”! Teams found UV thumbprints on clues, then used them to narrow down the list of suspects. We have lots of new kid’s mystery books for our reading challenge. This month’s program has been funded in full by the Big Horn County Library Foundation.
Friends of the Basin Library (FOBL) meet the first Wednesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is welcome. FOBL is one of our biggest donators and volunteer group. Throughout the year, they help fund our art/craft activities, reading challenges, and volunteer. We are grateful for all that they do. This month they had their annual Taco Dinner fundraiser on Saturday, August 15 at 5:00, at the park. This has become a family event with games, dinner, and music. The Basin Library had a book sale at the same time.
You can find all our books on the card catalog located on our website, along with an easy viewing list of new releases.
See you among the bookshelves!
