• Police Report

The following calls were received by the Basin Police Department last week (Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney):

July 27 — A civil matter occurred at the Wyoming Retirement Center on U.S. Highway 16/20 South involving a civil standby.

July 28 —A disturbance was reported on U.S. 16/20 South involving a verbal altercation in the main dining room. The subjects were reported to have been throwing objects at each other.

A utility issue was reported on East B Street after a power outage lasting approximately 30 minutes.

An officer initiated Community Relations activity at Big Horn Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue.

An officer initiated activity near milepost 198 on U.S. 16/20 South regarding a traffic hazard to remove tire debris.

A domestic animal incident was reported at the Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue involving a timid black and brown female dog with a collar near the fair office.

July 29 —A traffic complaint was reported at Greybull Avenue and South Sixth Street involving a red Dodge pulling a white enclosed trailer that was crossing the center line while traveling toward Greybull and turning left at the traffic light.

An officer assisted another agency on South Eighth Street with P&P, cleared with adult arrest.

An officer initiated Community Relations activity at the Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue.

Michael Joseph Hopkinson was arrested on a probation violation on South Eighth Street.

July 30 — An officer assisted the general public at Gottsche Rehab and Therapy Clinic on South Fourth Street.

An officer initiated Community Relations activity at the Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue.

July 31 — A domestic animal incident occurred on North Eighth Street involving a found animal.

A found dog was reported on North Sixth Street.

An officer assisted the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office (BHCSO) at Lane 45.

An officer initiated Community Relations activity at the Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue.

A domestic dispute occurred on C Street.

An information only incident occurred at the BHCSO on Murphy Street.

August 1 — An officer initiated activity at the Basin Police Department on South Third Street regarding the Big Horn County Parade.

An officer initiated Community Relations activity at the Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue.

An officer initiated Community Relations activity at the Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue.

An officer assisted another agency with a fire at Mile Post 191 on U.S. 16/20 South.

August 2 — An officer initiated Community Relations activity at the Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue.

A civil matter was reported on North Eighth Street regarding a neighbor marking and digging on the reporting party’s property.

• Sheriff's Report

The following calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office: (Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the Court:

July 27 - 8:10 a.m.: An abandoned vehicle was reported at Highway 14/16/20 and Road 26 in Greybull. 

9:56 a.m.: A civil standby was conducted at Wyoming Retirement Center on Highway 20 South in Basin; staff asked that an officer help tell a resident he had to be moved to another room, the man agreed peacefully.  

11:02 a.m.: Big Horn County Sheriff’’s Office was called to assist Basin Police Department at Wyoming Retirement Center on Highway 20 South in Basin for a potentially violent resident. 

3:53 p.m.: A small fire was started as Wyoming Department of Transportation was mowing the right-of-way on Highway 30 in Basin, Basin and Burlington Fire Departments were dispatched. 

4:27 p.m.: A traffic complaint was made on Highway 14/16/20 in Emblem. 

6:21 p.m.: Horses were reported out on Highway 14 in Shell. 

8:04 p.m.: Community relations were conducted at Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue in Basin. 

11:32 p.m.: A speeding pickup truck was reported on Orchard Bench Road in Basin, officers were unable to locate. 

July 28 - 7:10 a.m.: A disturbance, where an unruly resident allegedly threw the handle of their wheelchair at another resident, was reported in the main dining room of Wyoming Retirement Center on Highway 20 South in Basin.

6:44 p.m.: A controlled burn was reported out of control on Lane 42.5 in Burlington; a power pole caught fire, Burlington Fire Department responded. 

7:19 p.m.: An anonymous reporter from Greybull informed a deputy of a white, scruffy man hitchhiking on Forest Service Road 272 in Shell, officers were unable to locate. 

9:41 p.m.: A woman was reported as a suspicious person walking towards Basin on Highway 20 South in Greybull, officers were unable to locate. 

July 29 - 5:35 a.m.: Black steers were reported loose on Lane 40 in Burlington. 

6:54 a.m.: Horses and a goat were reported out on Lane 39 in Otto. 

7:24 a.m.: A vehicle with temporary tags was reported speeding and driving erratically on Highway 20 South in Manderson. 

10:31 a.m.: A citizen complaint was taken on Highway 14 in Greybull; the reporting party alleged that a campaign sign for Marcia Bean was illegally placed on the highway, it was actually for Brent Bien and referred to another agency. 

11:30 a.m.: A scam was reported to Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office on Murphy Street in Basin. 

1:31 p.m.: Community relations were conducted at Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue in Basin. 

1:56 p.m.: A citation was issued in a traffic stop on South Fourth Street in Basin. 

7:47 p.m.: A trespassing issue was reported on Lane 35 in Greybull. 

8:15 p.m.: Community relations were conducted at Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue in Basin. 

July 30 - 12:22 a.m.: A deer carcass was removed from the roadway on Highway 20 South in Basin. 

8:47 a.m.: BHCSO assisted Greybull Police Department at Greybull Avenue and North Sixth Street in Greybull. 

9:13 a.m.: A citizen complaint of a landowner flooding the road was taken on Davis Road in Greybull; the landowner was unplugging a pipe and working to remedy the issue. 

3:44 p.m.: Community relations were conducted at Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue in Basin. 

4:08 p.m.: Information was given regarding a custody issue at Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office on Murphy Street in Basin. 

5:47 p.m.: A traffic complaint was taken on Highway 14/16/20 in Burlington. 

7:51 p.m.: A vehicle was reported as a traffic hazard on the side of Highway 20 South in Basin, parked with a flat tire. 

July 31 -10:22 a.m.: A member of the public requested information regarding fireworks. 

12:50 p.m.: Community relations were conducted at Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue in Basin. 

1:30 p.m.: Community relations were conducted at Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue in Basin. 

1:34 p.m.: A civil standby was conducted on Lane 43 in Big Horn County. 

2:14 p.m.: A traffic hazard was reported where a semi truck lost its tires on Highway 20 South in Greybull. 

3:36 p.m.: A white man from Wisconsin was reported shooting at chipmunks with a pistol at Battle Park Campground on Forest Service Road 24 in Big Horn County; a deputy made contact and informed him he could not do that in the campground. 

7:04 p.m.: Community relations were conducted at Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue in Basin. 

7:58 p.m.: A domestic dispute was reported on C Street in Basin. 

8:20 p.m.: A utility call was made on South Sixth Street in Basin. 

9:06 p.m.: Community relations were conducted at Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue in Basin. 

Aug. 1 -- 5:36 a.m.: Cattle were reported out on Highway 20 South in Basin. 

7:44 a.m.: Sheep were reported out at Highway 310 and Highway 20 South in Greybull. 

7:53 a.m.: Community relations were conducted for Big Horn County Fair Parade at Basin Police Department on South Third Street in Basin. 

3:56 p.m.: Community relations were conducted at Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue in Basin. 

6:13 p.m.: BHSCO dispatch assisted Park County. 

6:38 p.m.: Community relations were conducted at Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue in Basin. 

7:14 p.m.: A black cow was reported out on Highway 14 in Shell. 

7:38 p.m.: Smoke was reported on the East side of Highway 20 South in Basin, possibly a burn pit. The landowner extinguished the fire. 

Aug. 2 -- 7:39 a.m.: Community relations were conducted at Big Horn County Fairgrounds on Holdrege Avenue in Basin. 

8:05 a.m.: Sheep were reported loose on Highway 14/16/20 in Greybull. 

8:23 a.m.: Property damage, where a vehicle allegedly ran through the corner and tore up a fence, was reported at Road 12.5 and Lane 41 in Burlington. 

3:13 p.m.: A back hall motion detector was accidentally set off at Security State Bank on South Fourth Street in Burlington, cleared by patrol. 

3:17 p.m.: BHCSO assisted Basin PD at Security State Bank on South Fourth street in Basin.

7:06 p.m.: BHCSO dispatch assisted Park County.

Grady Gerritt Swiftney of Greybull was arrested on a felony warrant in the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office lobby in Basin on Tuesday, July 28, released after serving six days.
