DesRosier & Huggins appointed at Basin Council Meeting

Stuart DesRosier has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Basin Town Council, replacing Brent Godfrey who resigned from his seat because he was planning to move out of town.   

A former council member, DeRosier will finish out Godfrey’s term which ends Dec. 31, 2026. He has filed to fill that seat by election and will be on the Aug. 18 primary election ballot. 

 Mayor C.J. Duncan swore DesRosier in with the oath of office. Prior to the swearing in, Duncan said he put a lot of thought into the position and that any of the people who submitted a letter of interest would do a good job for the town. 

Duncan also noted his other recommended appointments: Joint Powers Board, Mike Dellos; Electrical Department Foreman, Ray Huggins; Electric Joint Powers Board, Huggins; and NMPP (MEAN), Huggins 

Huggins has worked as an electrician for the town for approximately 2½ years.  Earlier in the meeting during the electrical department report, Huggins discussed the power outage that occurred July 8.  He explained how the town could prevent the entire town losing power at once like what happened that day.  Duncan praised Huggins for getting the power back quickly. He said, “We’re spoiled. The longest power outage I remember was two hours. Other places are out for days at a time.” 

The department hung flags on the two main streets, trimmed and removed trees. 

Town Administrator Deaun Tigner noted in her department report that USDA has not taken the town’s loan payment for this year. She has communicated to them on numerous occasions. 

Tigner also said the office has been prepping for the audit in September. 

Town Engineer Jesse Frisbe explained that a chip seal street project will start the week of July 13. The contractor will be contacting residents to move vehicles off the street. 

In other town council news:

• Building permits were approved for Homax Oil on North Fourth Street and George on North Fifth Street.

• Department reports were given for Public Works, and the PD. Chief McClure said the department is preparing for its move to town hall.
