Town of Greybull’s upcoming Days of ‘49 lineup

The town of Greybull is gearing up for its Days of ‘49 celebrations June 11 through June 14. The theme will be “Forever West: 1776-2026,” in honor of America’s upcoming semiquincentennial. For its part, the Days of ‘49 celebration is in its 81st year, the Town of Greybull in its 120th. 

Festivities will kick off with the annual Tug-O-War in front of Lisa’s Western Cuisine and Spirits Thursday, June 11 at 6 p.m. Friday, the Friends of the Library will run a book sale at the Greybull Library from noon to 7 p.m. The Greybull rec center will host their Gun Show at Herb Asp Community Center from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The show features a variety of guns, knives, ammunition, self-defense, hunting and sporting gear.  Vendor tables are available for a $40 fee or reserve a space for $35 and provide your own table.  Admission is free. Also Friday is the Open Rodeo at the Greybull Rodeo Grounds, starting at 6:45 p.m. Events will include bareback, saddle bronc, steer riding, bull riding, calf roping, women’s and kids’ breakaway, junior and women’s barrels, team roping, junior bulls, mixed team roping and ranch bronc riding. A Casey Good Memorial Buckle will be awarded to the high point, all event, all around. Call in is June 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 307-899-0789. Entry fees are $25 for junior barrels, kids’ breakaway and steer riding; $50 for junior bulls; and $75 for all other events. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and kids 13 and up. 

Saturday, June 13, the Gun Show continues at the community center from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friends of the Library will offer their book sale again from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The main parade will start down North Sixth Street at 10:30 a.m., beginning from Eighth Avenue North by Greybull High School, then turning east at the stoplight to cruise down Greybull Avenue. Entry forms are available by contacting Kate Hetzel at katevhetzel@gmail.com and may be submitted up until parade lineup. As of Tuesday, 10 floats had entered, with 30 expected. To call in your entry, contact 307-899-0083. Preferred placement entries must be received by today, Thursday, June 4.  The classic car parade will directly follow the main parade. From 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the classic car show will be on main street. For information on how to enter your vehicle, contact Peyton Swiftney at 307-272-2556. At 2 p.m., the free kids’ rodeo will take place at Greybull Rodeo Grounds, entry at 1:30 p.m.

A burnout competition, hosted by Jeromy Winkler, Thomas Sanchez, Justin Howe, and the Town of Greybull will be held on the west side of Greybull Avenue in front of the Greybull Standard, with sign-in from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Entry is free, donations optional to support next year’s event. Agri Tire Plus has offered free tires from their pile for those looking to save their tread, contact 307-765-2947 for more info. The smoke starts at 3:30 p.m.; first place prize is $500 cash, a t-shirt, and a hat donated by Big Horse Towing, plus an $800 credit for tires at Agri Tire donated by Flying E Meats and NAPA. Second and third place will receive a $400 credit at Agri Tire. The Blackwater Band, a classic rock group out of Powell, will play live music at the stoplight starting at 8 p.m., $5 cover. 

Sunday, June 14, church services will be held at Greybull City Park at 10:30 a.m. A flag ceremony will be held at the baseball fields at noon, where the town will debut its 60-foot flagpole displaying the American and Wyoming flags. The Greybull Elks Club will present the history of the flags. Special guest military representatives, to be announced, are expected to attend. Following, South Big Horn Little League will host their annual Home Run Derby Fundraiser, with a bounce house and Greybull Volunteer Fire Department trucks for the kids. Tara Sanchez of Tchez Creations will offer photos with the flag, and extra tables and chairs will be provided for seating. American Legion will be on the grill, with free eats for veterans and donations welcome from other patrons. Several other food vendors are also expected to attend.
