Hyattville 22nd annual Cowboy Carnival fundraiser May 24

The Hyattville Community Center will present the 22nd annual Cowboy Carnival Sunday, May 24. This annual fundraiser is a great family event. This year celebrates the 21st year of the Hyattville Cowboy Carnival Quilt Show and a variety of new and familiar events from previous years. The carnival begins with a 9 a.m. morning worship service with Frank Ley who welcomes all to attend. ANB will sponsor the “Quinlan Valdez” musical entertainment during lunch.

One of this year’s History Room Displays will feature Harry Deveraux’s handmade miniature replicas of homes and buildings of Hyattville, Heritage Cooking Recipes and Cookbook, and the “Paintrock Fish Hatchery.”

Registration for the Adult 5K and Kids K starts at 9 a.m. At 11 a.m. Kate Richardson will present an “Outdoor Cooking on the Trail” demonstration this year. Richardson has packed camp food into interesting places under interesting situations throughout the years. The ever-expanding Military Room will be open for viewing and questions. Levi Klemm of 9K Ranch Horses will present “From the Ground Up-Colt Starting.”

Brent Godfrey and Mark Brewster will conduct the Sharpshooter Contest at 10 a.m. at the old air strip on the south side of town on the gravel road that heads to Ten Sleep. It will be marked and obvious. Bring your own gun; some events have entry fees.

A new event this year will be a cribbage tournament (you are asked to bring your own boards and any extras you have).

Kids Activities include the BB gun shoot, k race, the petting zoo and pony rides along with other activities. Read more about the Kids Events on the Hyattville.org page.

The swing set and merry-go-round to keep the younger crowd entertained, vendors tables and plant sales will be just inside the gate. Book sales will be in the library.

Tickets for the barbecue lunch, pie and ice cream are $15 for adults, $5 for kids 12 and under, or $35 for an immediate family. This also includes tickets for the raffle ticket drawings at the Live Auction. Table and chairs seating is available along with additional shade for elderly guests on the upper lawn area at the front of the HCC. Lunch is served at 12:30 p.m. It includes beef, lamb, pork, and a selection of side dishes that always includes corn on the cob. This is also the perfect time to enjoy live music by this year’s entertainer.

After lunch, take time to view the items for the live auction, and enjoy a serving of those wonderful homemade pies with ice cream from local chefs for dessert in the cafeteria. Additional raffle tickets can be purchased for $1 each or 12 for $10. Prizes this year include: 1) box of meat, 2) fun shoot, dinner and drinks for 8 at Twisted Tippet of Hyattville, 3) Yeti cooler. Medicine Lodge Archaeological Park will share information on the facilities, learning centers and activities that are available to visitors and campers at Medicine Lodge State Park. There is also a wide array of information on display for the other state parks in Wyoming. They will also be selling water and beverage.

UW Extension Office’s Melissa Cook will be here to share local opportunities for various programs.

At 1 p.m. Todd Jones “Getting Prepared for your Packhorse Adventure”. He is a well-known Hunting and Fishing Outfitter as well as an instructor of this course at Casper College. Jones presents a “Packing Demonstration” that includes learning a few basic knots, finding gear, and selection of an animal. Get some actual hands-on experience. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.
