Hope Reigns Community Collective Garden seed starting party is Friday

This Friday is a seed starting party at the Basin First Baptist.  Hope Reigns Community Collective Garden has moved the garden to this location for year two. 

The garden was a dream of Tiffany and Mike Tanner. Along with their children Mackenzie and James, they kept busy last growing season. Mike and the kids were often at Russell Park with a pop up farmstand.  Like last year, the produce will be available on a “take what you need, give what you can” basis. This year the farm stand will be next to the garden. 

The location change gives more growing space and will allow for volunteers to come help with planting, cultivating and harvesting. A volunteer schedule is coming. It will be available on their Facebook page as well as on flyers posted around town. Garden shares may be available for volunteers, just ask Tiffany for the details. 

The Tanners said they are very grateful to the Elders of the church for allowing the garden to be planted on the church property. They also are grateful to Tool Time, Dan VanderPloeg and Mike Hagemeister for their tilling of the land. The Winters family in the Otto area provided the sheep manure at no charge. Many of the seeds for the garden came from Wyoming’s First Lady Jennie Gordon, through her “Grow a Little Extra” program. 

Laureena and Will Houchin, Gretty Gasvoda and Mike Kelso were also instrumental in making the garden happen.  The board is made up of the Tanners, VanderPloeg, Amber and Jesse Dewey, Lysia and Ryan DeFord and the Houchins.  

Tiffany explained how the seed starting party works.  Seeds will be planted in six packs. Should a person want to take a six-pack home, they can donate $10 per pack. All proceeds will benefit the garden. In addition to planting, there will be fellowship and fun. Please bring a snack to share. The event runs from 6:30-8 p.m. The garden is located on the west side of the church on Wyoming Highway 30. Mike noted he is super excited about the events they are planning throughout the summer. Both Tanners said their efforts are dedicated to God, the provider.
