• Police Report

The following calls were received by the Basin Police Department last week (Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney):

Mar. 2 — An officer initiated activity regarding an ordinance violation at South Eighth Street.

Officer initiated activity regarding an ordinance violation at South Ninth Street.

Mar. 3 —Suspicious circumstances regarding a possible theft were reported at Basin Market on South Fourth Street.

An officer initiated activity regarding an ordinance violation at South Fifth Street.

An officer initiated activity regarding an ordinance violation at South Ninth Street.

Suspicious circumstances were reported at the Big Horn County Library.

A fire occurred on the side of the road between Basin and Manderson South of the Basin beet dump at mile post 192 on U.S. Highway 16/20.

Police assisted Highway Patrol on Bureau of Land Management Road 1102.

Mar. 4 —An officer initiated activity regarding an ordinance violation about chicken permits and dog licenses in multiple locations beginning at South Third Street.

Mar. 5 — A traffic complaint occurred on South Fourth Street.
An officer initiated activity regarding an ordinance violation about chicken and dog licensing in multiple locations beginning at South Third Street.

A lost black wiener dog was reported at Overland Express Mart on North Fourth Street.

Police assisted the public at Basin Town Hall on West B Street regarding a lockout from the building prior to a meeting.

Mar. 6 — An officer initiated activity at Basin Police Department on South Third Street regarding a dog license ordinance.

Dogs at large were reported at South Eighth Street.

A warning was given after receiving a R.E.D.D.I. report at North Fourth Street.

Mar. 6 — A phone in a pink case was lost at the Basin Town Hall on West B Street.

Mar. 7  — A citizen complaint was reported on South Ninth Street.

• Sheriff's Report

The following calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office: (Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the Court:

March 2 – 6:42 a.m.: Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received a text from Trapper Creek Road in Shell requesting assistance retrieving personal items. 

9 a.m.: Dispatch handled a call regarding a water leak at Lane 46 and Road 28.5 in Basin. 

9:51 a.m.: BHCSO was called to assist another agency outside of Big Horn County with a case of stolen property, officers were unable to locate. 

10:49 a.m.: An officer checking on a motorist on Highway 14/16/20 in Emblem found them to be using their phone. 

March 3 – 3:21 p.m.: A civil matter regarding abandoned equipment on Lane 40 in Burlington was reported. 

5 p.m.: A camper was reported driving with a blown tire on Highway 20 South in Manderson. 

5:09 p.m.: BHCSO assisted Wyoming Highway Patrol on BLM Road 1102 in Big Horn County. 

March 4 – 6:24 a.m.: A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported on Highway 30 in Burlington. 

8:12 a.m.: A civil issue was reported on Highway 14 in Shell. 

8:54 a.m.: A black cow was reported standing on Highway 30 in Burlington. 

1:51 p.m.: BHCSO assisted Highway Patrol on Highway 14/16/20 in Greybull. 

4:12 p.m.: Billowing smoke was reported on the north end of Orchard Bench Road on Highway 20 South in Basin, found to be a controlled burn. 

10:10 p.m.: Officers were unable to locate a disturbance reported on Railroad Street in Greybull. 

March 5 – 4:34 p.m.: An officer checked on a motorist pulled over using their phone at Highway 20 South and Highway 433 in Manderson. 

7:31 p.m.: An abandoned vehicle was reported at Antelope Butte Ski Lodge on Forest Service Road 830 in Shell. 

March 6 – 10:17 a.m.: A disturbance regarding vandalized cars was reported on Lane 35 in Emblem. 

12:23 p.m.: BHCSO engaged in community relations at Hunters Education outside of Big Horn County. 

March 7 – 10:47 a.m.: Larceny was reported on Lane 39 in Basin where a person allegedly did not pay for items dropped at the landfill. 

6:44 p.m.: A small fire reported on Road 29 near Manderson was cleared. 

11:44 p.m.: BHCSO assisted Greybull Police Department at Ninth Avenue North and North Sixth Street in Greybull. 

March 8 – 7:32 a.m.: BHCSO was requested for traffic control moving sheep on Highway 14/16/20 in Greybull. 

2:02 p.m.: A sheep was reported out on Highway 14/16/20 in Greybull. 

ARRESTS

Mitchell Wayne Brown of Billings was arrested at Elk Creek and Highway 20 on Tuesday, March 3 for a fourth or subsequent DUI offense, a felony, as well as five misdemeanor charges: an act of physical control with BAC over .08, no valid registration, requirement of safe mechanical condition, possession of a controlled substance in plant form under three ounces, and negligently burning woods, prairie. To be released after six days. 

Ely Kain of Worland was arrested in Emblem on Friday, March 6 for a breach of peace, to be released after three days.

 • Circuit Court

Recent court fines and sentences handed down or bonds forfeited in the circuit court of Judge Edward G. Luhm:  

Travis Bertolini, Greybull, DUI alcohol, $770; 60 days jail, 56 days suspended, 6 months unsupervised probation

Brett Patterson, Greybull, drive while license cancelled, suspended, deemed invalid or revoked if not suspended for 31-5-229 or 31-5-233, $450

Cody Ray Culver, Lovell, expired temporary license permit/improper registration, $450; open container of alcohol, first offense, $140

Speeding 70 mph zone:
