• Police Report

The following calls were received by the Basin Police Department last week (Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney):

August 11 — An officer assisted the public on South Fourth Street.

A scam occurred on Crescent Dr and was cleared.

August 12 — An officer assisted another agency in the field on US Highway 16/20. Contact resulted in an adult arrest.

August 13 — There was a suspicious circumstance on South Seventh. A five-dollar bill stuck under the wind shield in the alley.

A medium sized brown dog with black speckles was seen on Rue Avenue in the alley behind the EMTs.

Basin PD assisted the general public on South Sixth Street.

An officer assisted another agency regarding a dark Corvette with no plates on Highway 16/20 turned into the gravel pit, officer unable to locate.

Two missing dogs on North Seventh Street.

An officer took information from a resident on South Sixth Street.

Two dogs were missing on North Seventh Street.

August 14 — A resident on South Sixth Street called because he was stressed.

August 15 — A traffic hazard was reported on South Fourth Street and Montana Ave.

An officer assisted Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office (BHCSO) with a welfare check on Sunburst Lane.

An officer assisted the BHCSO with the general public.

An officer assisted the general public with directions and general questions on South Fourth Street.

Basin PD was advised of a traffic hazard on Main Street.

August 16 — A lost dog was seen on South Second Street.

An officer initiated community contact at Washington Park.

Basin PD assisted the public at the Family Dollar Store.

August 17 — An officer assisted at the BHCSO with a resident that was angry with their father. Situation was cleared.

Basin PD assisted the general public at the BHCSO.

An ordinance was enforced on North Seventh Street.

An ordinance violation was given on E Street.

An ordinance was enforced to the property owner on North Seventh Street

An ordinance was enforced on South Sixth Street.

August 18 — An officer took information about suspicious circumstance on South Seventh Street.

August 19 — An officer responded to a suspicious circumstance at the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office.

An officer responded to a resident who brought in mail thought to be a scam to the BHCSO. Information was taken.

August 20 — Basin PD cleared an Illegal parking violation on South Tenth Street.

August 22 — An officer took information from a resident on South Sixth Street.

Basin PD assisted Manderson PD on US Highway 16/20 MP 190.

An officer took a scam information at the BHCSO.

An officer responded to a burglary alarm at Security State Bank. Employee called to advise it was a false alarm activated by the motion detector.

An officer assisted with an aggressive caller from the Wyoming Retirement Center (WRC).

August 23 — An officer assisted the WRC with a suspicious circumstance.

An officer assisted the BHCSO with two calls on Orchard Bench Road.

August 24 — An officer initiated activity at the First Baptist Church.

Kenneth Raymond Cauffman, Burlington, DUI: alcohol equal to or greater than .08% - first offense within 10 years, jail: 90 days, suspended: 87 days, unsupervised probation: 6 months, $620.

Dulcie K. Vanvoorhis, Worland, theft: deprive - $1,000 or more or firearm/livestock regardless of value; forgery; theft: use of dispose - $1,000 or more or firearm/livestock regardless of value, all counts bound over.

Keith Searle, Manderson, child present where meth or fentanyl is stored, ingested or possessed; possession of a controlled narcotic substance – schedule I, II or III, amount more than in para, both counts bound over.

Christopher P. Vanvoorhis, Manderson, three counts of theft: deprive –$1,000 or more or firearms/livestock regardless of value; forgery; all counts bound over.

Tara Lynn Sonesen, child present where meth or fentanyl is stored, ingested or possessed, possession of controlled substance – powder or crystal – 3 grams or less both counts bound over.

Aug. 18 – A wildland fire was reported on Highway 30 in Burlington where a barley field reportedly caught fire. Burlington Fire Department responded.  

12:35 p.m.: Information was requested on a possible stolen vehicle at Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office on Murphy Street in Basin. 

1:20 p.m.: A controlled burn was reported on Highway 20 South in Manderson. 

3:26 p.m.: The fire on Highway 30 in Burlington reportedly reignited and fire crews were dispatched again. 

5:46 p.m.: A civil issue regarding a dog jumping on a citizen’s car and scratching the paint was reported to Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office on Murphy Street in Basin. 

7:39 p.m.: A utility issue of no water was reported on Highway 31 in Manderson. 

8:32 p.m.: A rapid SOS text was reported from Forest Service Road 27 in Ten Sleep. 

Aug. 19 – 12:52 a.m.: An officer initiated field contact at South Fourth Street and Holdrege Avenue in Basin. 

7:45 a.m.: A found dog was reported on Highway 20 South in Manderson. 

6:41 p.m.: A 911 test was conducted at Wyoming Retirement Center on Highway 20 South in Basin. 

6:48 p.m.: A dog issue was reported on Lane 35 in Emblem. 

9:23 p.m.: A caller reported their neighbor was shooting at their dog on Lane 35 in Emblem. 

Aug. 20 – 6:16 a.m.: Horses were reported loose on Highway 14/16/20 in Emblem. 

4:06 p.m.: Dispatch took a stolen vehicle report from Powell Police Department. 

7:01 p.m.: A single black calf was reported wandering down Highway 433 in Manderson. 

8:38 p.m.: A false fire alarm was reported on Golf Course Road in Basin. 

Aug. 21 – 8:35 a.m.: An officer stopped to assist a motorist who was just using their phone on Road 43.5. 

5:53 p.m.: A smoke sighting was reported near Shell Creek from Lane 30.5 in Greybull. 

6:41 p.m.: A scam was reported on Road 31.5 in Shell. 

Aug. 22 – 9:01 a.m.: An accidental text to 911 was sent from Highway 31 in Hyattville. 

12:10 p.m.: An accidental rapid 911 ping was reported from The Hideout on Road 40.5 in Shell. 

4:17 p.m.: Officers assisted Highway Patrol on Highway 14/16/20 in Emblem. 

5:21 p.m.: A rapid SOS ping was reported from Highway 20 South in Basin. 

7:15 p.m.: An injured antelope was reported on Road 35.5 in Shell. 

7:49 p.m.: An officer assisted a motorist at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Highway 20 South in Basin. 

10:21 p.m.: An officer assisted a motorist on North Fourth Street in Basin. 

Aug. 23 – 6:31 a.m.: A possible accident was reported on Highway 20 in Washakie County. 

6:51 a.m.: A horse was reported near the road on Highway 14/16/20 in Emblem. 

1:22 p.m.: A citation was issued for livestock on Highway 433 in Manderson. 

1:24 p.m.: An accidental 911 call was reported on Highway 20 South in Manderson. 

2:56 p.m.: Cattle were reported loose on Highway 14 in Shell. 

3:04 p.m.: An accidental 911 call was reported on Highline Drive in Shell. 

3:45 p.m.: An officer assisted Greybull Police Department on the walking path on Greybull Avenue in Greybull. 

3:55 p.m.: An accidental 911 call was reported on Highway 14/16/20 in Otto. 

6:01 p.m.: An intruder was reported on Orchard Bench Road in Basin. The alleged intruder claimed he has permission from the caller’s daughter to be on the property which was refuted, and the man was placed under arrest. 

Aug. 24 – 11:43 a.m.: A vehicle accident was reported on Highway 30 in Burlington where a Toyota Corolla drove off the highway and into a fence, popping two tires. No injuries were reported.

4:26 p.m.: A suspicious person was reported on Road 23 in Basin. A concerned citizen called in the driver of a dark Toyota pickup that reportedly was parked in front of their absent neighbor’s house. 

9:20 p.m.: A 5-gallon bucket was reported as a traffic hazard on Highway 20 in Greybull. 

ARRESTS

Michael Sunrhodes of Thermopolis was arrested on charges of criminal trespass and entry in Manderson on Saturday, Aug. 23.
