• Police Report

The following calls were received by the Basin Police Department last week (Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney):

August 4 — Basin PD took information on South Sixth Street.

An officer took information only at South Seventh and West A Street.

A person at the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office (BHCSO) requested information.

August 5 — An officer took information on North Seventh Street

Basin PD handled an animal problem on Holdrege Avenue.

August 6 — Suspicious person on South Fifth Street was reported. No contact made.

Basin PD took information on South Sixth Street.

A resident called from South Sixth Street needing public works for a backed-up sewer line in their basement that they believe is plugged on the city side. 

August 7 — Matthew Paul Weant of Basin was booked on a misdemeanor charge from an outside agency warrant.

A citizen complaint was taken at the Basin Police Department on South Third Street.

Possible semi on fire on Hwy. 20 South. Call was cancelled.

An officer assisted another agency on South Seventh Street.

Property damage on South Sixth Street was reported.

August 8 — Wheels on fire at the Big Horn County Fairgrounds.

An officer assisted the general public on South Sixth Street.

A caller reported their son busted out the mirror of the truck. Citation issued.

An officer issued an ordinance violation at North Fourth Street.

August 9 — Basin PD responded to a civil matter on West E Street.

An officer assisted the general public on South Sixth Street.

Patient at Three Rivers Health ER presented with an accidental gunshot wound sought medical treatment. Basin PD was informed.

A dog was found on South Eighth Street.

August 10 — Sarah Kay Gomez of Basin was booked on a misdemeanor charge.

An anonymous caller wants the Basin town employee who sprays mosquitos to be called out, because the mosquitoes are ridiculous tonight. Information was passed on.

• Sheriff's Report

Aug. 4 – 1:34 p.m.: Suspicious circumstances were reported on Bear Creek Road in Shell. 

1:44 p.m.: A traffic complaint was made at Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office on Murphy Street in Basin. 

3:49 p.m.: A civil matter was reported on Highway 14/16/20 in Greybull. 

4:26 p.m.: Officers assisted the general public on Highway 14/16/20. 

5:26 p.m.: A Rapid SOS text to 911 was recorded at Medicine Lodge State Park on Road 52 in Hyattville, found clear. 

5:44 p.m.: Lost ramps were reported on First Avenue South in Greybull. 

6:01 p.m.: A traffic complaint on Highway 20 South in Manderson was reportedly unfounded. 

6:55 p.m.: Accidental property damage was reported on Highway 20 South in Basin. 

Aug. 5 – 6:22 a.m.: Horses were reported out alongside Highway 14 in Shell. 

8:15 a.m.: A civil standby was requested for Aug. 9 at 8 a.m. 

8:33 a.m.: Animal abuse was reported at Lane 42 and Basin Garden Road in Basin where goats allegedly were left without water, officers were unable to locate. 

8:36 a.m.: A burglar alarm at Department of Family Services on Second Avenue North in Greybull was reported as a test. 

1:12 p.m.: A boulder was reported as a road hazard on Beaver Creek Road in Shell. 

4:43 p.m.: A traffic stop was conducted and a citation issued at South Fourth Street and Myrtle Avenue in Basin. 

4:51 p.m.: A barley field and combine were reported on fire on Road 30 in Big Horn County. 

5:38 p.m.: Accidental property damage was reported at Willow Park on Forest Service Road 503 in Ten Sleep. 

5:38 p.m.: Officers participated in community relations at Greybull City Park on South Second Street in Greybull. 

Aug. 6 – 11:21 a.m.: A plume of smoke was reported as a controlled burn on North Sherman Avenue in Manderson. 

2:32 p.m.: Information was requested concerning a water access issue on Trapper Creek Road in Shell. 

6:37 p.m.: An animal was reported lost on Highway 14/16/20 in Emblem, officers were unable to locate. 

8:02 p.m.: The county fire chief advised Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office of BLM fire restrictions. 

Aug. 7 – 9:21 a.m.: A REDDI report was made on a vehicle allegedly speeding and swerving on Highway 14/16/20 in Greybull. 

11:53 a.m.: A traffic complaint was made on Highway 20 South in Basin, officers were unable to locate. 

1:29 p.m.: An oil well was reported on fire at the Greybull Sub Station on Greybull River Road.

4:35 p.m.: A possible semi on fire was reported on Highway 20 South in Basin, the unit was cancelled. 

5:21 p.m.: A caller reported a bald eagle on their porch on Highway 20 South in Manderson. 

5:25 p.m.: An oil well was again reported on fire at Nahne Jensen Substation on Greybull River Road. 

Aug. 8 -- 2:29 p.m.: A service truck working on a camper in the lane of travel was reported as a traffic hazard on Highway 20 South in Basin. 

4:13 p.m.: A citizen reported concern about smoke from a controlled burn scheduled for the next day on West Poplar Avenue in Burlington. 

6:46 p.m.: Officers assisted a motorist on Highway 14/16/20 in Burlington. 

7:25 p.m.: A caller requested to speak with a deputy regarding a bull that has allegedly continued to break into his cows on Highway 14 in Greybull. 

7:36 p.m.: BHCSO assisted an Idaho deputy in retrieving a motorcycle on Crooked Creek Road in Big Horn County. 

8:07 p.m.: A report of threats was made on Road 31.5 in Shell. 

8:56 p.m.: Officers assisted a motorist in changing a tire on Highway 310 in Greybull. 

Aug. 9 – 4:20 p.m.: A traffic stop was conducted and a citation issued on Highway 20 South in Manderson. 

Aug. 10 – 3:12 a.m.: Horses were reported in the roadway on Basin Garden Road in Basin. 

11:18 a.m.: A caller reported a hit gas line on Highway 14/16/20 in Greybull.
