Trap season begins for the Huskies
The Burlington Trap team is starting the season with one of the biggest rosters they have ever had.
“We have 14 student athletes competing. We have 10 returning and 4 new team members,” said Coach Nate Kreider. “The past three weeks of practice have been great scores and weather to practice in. We have a number of athletes returned who are going to be competitive in the state individual and conference individual race. Our new athletes are posting really good scores early and I look forward to watching them grow.”
Athletes entered their first week of Shooting this week and will compete in 1A Conference 2 against Dubois, Goshen County, Kemmerer, Powell and Wheatland high schools. At the end of each week, competitors’ scorers are submitted and ranked on a team and individual basis.
When thinking of goals for the season, Kreider mentioned the focus on weekly improvement as individuals and as a team: “I would like to go to state this year with at least five athletes so we can compete as a team at the tournament. I would gladly take more athletes. I’m looking forward to the competition weeks ahead. If the weather cooperates in the coming weeks, I foresee this possibly being one of our most competitive seasons, if not our best season thus far.”
As with all youth sports, there are many who play a part in making seasons successful. “We finished up our club raffle last week and I would like to thank those who purchased tickets and thank those who sponsored our team for the season. Our club wouldn’t exist without the support of the people and businesses in our community. As always, Big Horn Basin Gun Club has been great to work with and provide a top-notch trap range for our youth to compete at. Over the last year they have gone above and beyond to accommodate our youth shooting clubs with upgrading equipment,” said Kreider.
