Things I have dropped on my toes
Well, not all of them have I dropped. When I had horses, their feet and my toes came into contact quite often, but I usually had shoes on then.
I am an original “Barefoot Sue.” I rarely have shoes on in the house. As a kid I rarely had shoes on at all, in or out. It doesn’t seem to matter to me whether it is summer or winter, I will be barefoot in my house. And yes, I have mishaps because of that, mostly things landing on my feet or toes. I get reminded on a regular basis that shoes would help protect my feet and toes, but I haven’t had it hurt bad enough yet to make me want to wear shoes in the house.
The latest was the battery of my cordless floor sweeper. I grabbed a newly charged battery out of the cupboard, slid it into the battery space on the sweeper handle, only I missed, and I forgot to hold onto the battery until I knew it was in, it hit the third toe on my left foot with a smack and I yelped, groaned, whined, and hopped for a bit. I noticed later that it even took a bit of skin off of that toe.
I think I must have dropped many things on my toes when I was a little tike, but my memory fails of them. Several years ago, I dropped a coffee mug on my toe; it cut the toe and I am quite sure broke said toe. Didn’t break the mug, though. Apparently, my toes are a good cushion.
Some time before that I dropped a pound of butter on my foot. It didn’t hit my toe, but left a big old bruise on my instep. A bruise that rivaled the one I got when my 1,500 pound horse decided that if I could walk on the bottoms of my feet she could walk on the tops. The butter was cold, but I am sure glad it wasn’t frozen; it would have broken my foot I am sure.
And the list goes on, a package of frozen hamburger, rocks, many rocks, screwdrivers, knives (fortunately neither of those landed point end down) and even a squash once. That time I didn’t just drop it, I threw it.
I was throwing a big winter squash down on the front steps to crack the shell open and it bounced. When it landed my toes were under it, and yes because I was just outside the front door, I was barefoot. So I need not wonder why my feet hurt, they have taken a beating over the years and still hold me up. But it sure does give meaning to the verse in the Bible that compares the Church, the Body of Believers to the human body. It says when the smallest part of the body hurts, the whole body is affected. I can attest that dropping something on my smallest toe can make my whole body whimper for days.
Merry Christmas every one.
Potato Candy
2 tablespoons mashed potatoes
Enough powdered sugar to form a stiff dough.
Mix the potatoes with the powdered sugar, adding more until a stiff dough consistency is reached. It should be like pie dough. Roll out on a board dusted with powdered sugar. Roll to 1/8 inch thickness. Spread with a thin layer of peanut butter and roll like jelly roll. Chill then slice and serve. These could be dipped in chocolate also.
