Thanksgiving food basket drive is happening now
The Thanksgiving food basket drive for the Basin Area Food Bank has begun. The Paintrock FFA collected food during homecoming week at Riverside Schools.
The Food Bank, Security State Bank, Basin’s Market and the Basin Area Chamber are teaming up for the baskets again this year. SSB bags will be available at the bank, Basin’s Market and the chamber; attached to the bags is a shopping list with items to feed a family of four.
A turkey drive will take place at the back door of the chamber on Nov. 18 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Churches, organizations, individuals, families may donate turkeys to be handed out with the baskets on Nov. 22. A ham drive will happen in December for the Christmas basket program.
Food Bank volunteer Charlene Anderson said approximately 65 baskets were handed out last year. “The need is great for many around here. We really want to help those that really need the food. A group from the Methodist Church helps us pack the baskets. Basin First Baptist started the turkey drive a few years back. Plus, we have a lot of families, businesses and individuals that help, too. This year, we are hoping that each church in the area will also become involved somehow. They are a big part of our giving community.”
If someone wants to help with food donations but not adopt a basket, food items such as canned green beans, boxed stuffing, cake mixes, gravy, and canned fruit are welcome. Drop off at the food collection containers at Basin’s Market or the chamber. Each item helps feed a family.
Baskets are given out on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no list. Contact Charlene Anderson at 307-272-4340 or Lori Thon at 307-250-1678.
