Sink drain failure

It seems like kitchen floors get all of the messes in the house. Some time last week, Rick was filling the dog water dish and it slipped from his hands and flooded the floor. The rug in front of the kitchen sink went outside to dry, I mopped the water up with towels, assured him that the floor needed to be mopped anyway and went on with life. I have done the same thing many times, and at least this time it was just water, not syrup, milk, eggs, or something worse.

So a few days ago, he was rinsing out the breakfast dishes when all of a sudden there was water on the kitchen floor again. Out went the rug again, I opened the cupboard doors to take a look and realized that the drain to the left hand sink had come loose and was not connected to the sink. Ahhh, so that is where the water was coming from, I fixed the drain, mopped up the floor and then saw that there was still about ¼ inch of water in the bottom of the cupboard. Well, the easiest way to get that taken care of is the shop vac, but alas, the shop vac hasn’t been cleaned since I dropped the stove pipe and had to use it to suck up all of the soot from the living room several months ago.

I took the vacuum outside, took off the lid, dumped the soot into the outside fire pit, slid the keeper off and took off the paper filter. Now I am black, but the vacuum is ready to use for wet things, I put the lid back on and sucked up the water and the detritus that has collected under the sink for the past several months. So now the drain is fixed, the cupboard is cleaned, the floor is dry, the rug, though, is still outside hanging over the fence, it will be dry tomorrow and I will put it back down.

I hadn’t really planned on spring-cleaning the kitchen cupboard at this time, but hey, I am not afraid to take advantage of an opportunity. So instead of the other stuff I had kind of planned to do today, I went ahead and cleaned another cupboard and refilled all of my specialty flour canisters that were getting low on contents.

One more corner cleaned and decluttered, even though this one wasn’t planned.

Bacon-Lamb Burgers

8 slices bacon, about ½ pound

1 pound ground lamb, I am sure turkey, chicken or beef would work as well

2 slices bread, torn into small pieces

1 egg

1 small onion, finely chopped

¼ cup grated parmesan cheese

¼ cup milk

3 tablespoons snipped parsley

1 ¼ teaspoon salt

Dash pepper.

Arrange bacon slices on plastic wrap so they overlap slightly. Mix remaining ingredients and spread over bacon. Roll up like jelly roll. Wrap in plastic wrap and secure with wooden picks. Refrigerate at least 2 hours but no longer than 8 hours. Set oven to broil and/or 550º, unwrap lamb roll and cut into 8 slices. Flatten slightly, broil with tops 4-5 inches from heat 6-8 minutes on each side.
