Scrambling Sows win third consecutive championship

Pig wrestling’s defending champions, the Scrambling Sows, won Big Horn County Fair’s women’s division for the third year in a row on Thursday, July 30. The team of Katie Horton of Otto, Justine Paxton of Basin, Rachel Bitton and Lynn Guccion, both of Lovell, cleaned up – metaphorically, in reality, mud was involved. The ladies were the only team in their division to get the pig in the barrel with a personal record time of 23 seconds. 

“We’re pretty competitive,” Horton said, which has kept the team coming back. They know each other through farming and the like, coming together for Big Horn County Fair each year. A new team member, Paxton, replaced Chelsea Leonhardt of Lovell, who is pregnant, this year. The Scrambling Sows wore matching t-shirts and had a onesie made for Leonhardt. Sponsored by Table Mountain Insurance, each Sow made about $160 between the prize money and Calcutta. 

In the men’s division, Lane 49ers Tucker McKim, Austin Alexander, Jeff Joyce and Dylan Alexander, sponsored by Spear D Ranch, took first prize.

The Oink Outlaws took first place in the junior division, the team of Jesse Reber, Trinity Link, Harmony Hopkin and Dalton Bankert was sponsored by MTR Ranch Supply.
