RMS teams show growth in early season
The Riverside Middle School volleyball team opened up the season against the Meeteetse Longhorns Thursday, Sept. 4 and the Shoshoni Wranglers Friday Sept. 5.
The A team came out strong against the Longhorns, winning the first set 25-10 but losing the next two sets, 10-25,10-15.
The A team lost to Shoshoni in all 3 sets.
The A team had many highlights which included Whitley Godfrey having eight aces against the Longhorns, 90% accuracy with serves at Shoshoni and 18 assists; Brynn Jensen, 91% serving accuracy for both games, 92% accuracy for hitting, and one solo block against Shoshoni and Hudsyn Hopkin, 100% serving accuracy against Shoshoni. Ryan Whisenant performed with 83% accuracy on serves for both games, four aces against Meeteetse and two assists. Harper Juneau had nine assists, two kills and one attempt. Tatum Triplett stepped up as Libero in Shoshoni and performed very well with 85% accuracy in passing.
The B team overtook the weekend games with victory and celebrations. They started on Thursday, Sept. 4 against Meeteetse Longhorns winning two of three sets: 26-24, 25-16, 11-15. The B team won two of three sets in Shoshoni: 25-17 23-25 15-9.
The entire team has put in a lot of work on fundamentals and it has paid off with outstanding stats from: Hanna Shaw who had eight aces against Meeteetse; Embree Craft performed very well against Meeteetse with 100% passing accuracy, three kills and one attempt n the two games; Delta Craft served 100% accuracy with two aces in Shoshoni; Aariyanna Velazquez had one ace against the Longhorns and served 100% of her serves towards the Wranglers; Olivia Wenzel had 100% accuracy within both games; Grace Vanderpleog served four aces against Meeteetse; Kaislee Nyberg performed well against both teams with six kills and two attempts and Kaylee Peterson had three assists over the weekend.
The RMS volleyball team travels to TenSleep today (Thursday, Sept. 11) and Greybull on Saturday, Sept. 13. The coaches look forward to continued growth from the athletes throughout the season and anticipate gains within each game.
