August 6, 1925

Mr. W.P. Enders and his son, Dean left the fore part of the week for Gebo where Mr. enders has a contract for putting up a number of houses for the Owl Creek Coal company. 

On Saturday last the writer had the pleasure of a visit to the fine ranch of Col. Dan W Rogers, on the Alamo Flat, the object being to see a field of corn which Dan had told us was worth looking at, and we found the visit a most helpful one. The corn field is the best we have ever seen in this section. There are about three acres in the field, which Dan had planted for the purpose of seeing what he could do with corn. The result is all that could have been hoped for.

August 3, 1950

Coker F. Rathbone, first Big Horn county and prosecuting attorney died recently in Taft, Cal. He was the last of the county officers elected when Big Horn county was created in 1896. 

Robert L. Kilzer has been named superintendent of Basin public schools, it was announced this week following Mr. Kilzer’s acceptance of the position. Mr. Kilzer has been Cody High school principal for the last two years. He is the son of Dr. L.R. Kilzer, head of the University of Wyoming department of education. 

As the deadline for filing nominating petitions for the August 22 primary election was reached on Wednesday evening, the number of persons seeking county offices stood at 30.

August 7, 1975

Basin Police Chief Bill Harless resigned Monday morning. The act came as a surprise to town council members. Mayor Chester E Flyr accepted the resignation with reluctance. Harless gave family matters as the reason for his leaving the post. At Monday night’s council meeting, Mayor Flyr appointed Terry Patterson as temporary chief. 

Mrs. Allen McKim entertained at a birthday party last Thursday in honor of her son Shad, on the occasion of his third birthday. Among those present were Cannon, Dawn, and Brandon McKim and their Mother Mickey McKim; Justin McKim and his mother , Robyn McKim, Claude, Marcia and Gary Craft and their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Craft, Jerry and Mike Cornett and their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Cornett

The Carquest store located on Fourth Avenue in Basin has been closed by the regional office in Billings. When contacted the spokesman for the Billings office confirmed that the store was closed last week, but declined to make any further comment. 

The father-son team of Randy and Jeff Jacobs of Basin finished second in their division Saturday at the fourth annual Parent/Child Golf Tournament in Powell. The Jacobs, who shot an 86 in the 18-hole Chapman format event, also posted the second low net score with a 71. Their team was entered in the 16-18 division. The divisions are based on the age of the child.  Another local team, the duo of Jon and Chris Harwood of Greybull, posted a 109 in the 13-15 division.
