If not for Cody and the state of Montana, the weather of the Big Horn Basin would be just one round of delight. But with the two acting up the way they are accustomed to, there are times when we feel a little aggravated at them. For instance, the latter part of last week Montana proceeded to pull off a two-foot snowstorm, then on Monday Cody thought the proper way to welcome the governor was to do it with a full-fledged blizzard. As a result, Basin has experienced some rather cool weather. Sunday morning the temperature was at 25 degrees and on Tuesday, after the Cody stunt, it fell to 28. In spite of the freezing weather, those who know tell us that gardens have suffered very little and that fruit is not at all damaged.

Members of the Big Horn County road and bridge crew and two Town of Basin employees were engaged Wednesday and Thursday morning in pulling carcasses of dead cattle from the Big Horn River between Manderson and Greybull. Twenty-six carcasses were retrieved and hauled to the landfill north of Basin. It is suspected that the cattle fell through the ice. It is believed that the cattle belonged to Mark Carter of Ten Sleep Cattle Co.
