100 years ago - April 2, 1925

On Monday the high school and eighth grade took a second spelling test. The words were just ordinary words, a list of which had been given to be studied last week. The seniors ranked highest in this test with an average of 85%, juniors with 81%, sophomores with 80%, eighth grade had 76% and freshmen had 62%. The honor roll of those receiving 95% or above are as follows: Elma Taylor, Nellie Moon, Agnes Wheeler, Purl Jones, Cathryn Extra, Adana Tolstrup, Constance Chatfield, Hazel Curtis, Elizabeth Wilson, Mary Allen, Francis Eagan, Francis Winters, Ethel Root, William Jessen, Lillian Sweeney, Clara McNay, Hubert Borden, Arlene Jones, Edward Johnson, Helen West, Julia McNay, Ethel Harmon, Evelyn Fields, Paul McKone, Donald Borner and Rosie Ramsay.

75 years ago - March 30, 1950

Eleven Basin High School students took part in the Big Horn Basin inter-school band and choir meet at Powell Saturday. Attending were Ardith Morris and Betty English in the choir; Richard Chappell, Douglas Farley, Floyd Earl Ellison, Albert Hallcroft, Ardith Boelens, Norma Rose, Walter Johnson, Ronald Harless and Allen Ellison in the band.

Herbet Chapman, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Chapman, is among those who received 1949-50 season letters for basketball at Rocky Mountain College in Billings.

Cub Scout Dens met Monday afternoon. Cub scouts present were James Spencer, Dennis Beck, Jerry Flyr, Bruce Campbell, Jim Luther, Craig Stoelk, Gary Skovegard and Marvin Porter. Den 3 members attending were Jon Ashment, Gary Hartman, Terry McKone, Allen Mercer, Bill Miller, Tommy Pelton, Steve Hogue and Jim Saban. Den 4 members included Jerry Sublett, James Hastings, Jerry and Alvin Farley, Jackie Marcus and Dudley Chapman.

50 years ago - April 3, 1975

Herbert House is the new general manager of the Big Horn Co-Operative Marketing Association. He succeeds the late Leo A. Smith in that capacity.

The Big Horn Rural Electric company’s new warehouse and garage building is 99 percent completed. The structure has been under construction since January.

Those attending the 25th class reunion of the class of 1950 were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Akin, Mr. and Mrs. Miles Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. Monte Best, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Collinwood, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Darling (coach and typing teacher), Dorothy Franklin, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Frisbee, Ronald Gibler, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnston, Mr. and Mrs. David Kost and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Maller.

25 years ago - March 31, 2000

A lead screening session has been scheduled at the public health office in Greybull. According to information received from the State Lead Prevention program, children in Big Horn County are at higher risk for lead poisoning than most counties in the state, and the nation, based on the age of the county’s housing. Lead still existed in houses built until 1978, and Big Horn County has a higher than national average number of homes built before 1950.

A holiday golfing vacation to Mexico took an unexpected turn for Walter and Dorlene Mayland, who found themselves on stage at the Caribbean Village resort, competing in an impromptu dance contest with about eight other couples.
