100 years ago

March 19, 1925

A number of our farmers, taking advantage of the fine weather of February and March, had disced their land and sowed their wheat, which had the benefit of that fine fall of snow of Tuesday.

The Big Horn Basin got a wonderful fall of snow on Tuesday. The storm came on during the night and the result was a heavy fall of wet snow. The moisture was badly needed and it is hoped that the storm was general throughout all of the Rocky Mountain district, since Colorado is even more in need of moisture than this section.

The agriculture boys are all working on their study outline for their coming project. Some are taking wheat, some beans, some cucumbers and some rabbits. Mr. Griesinger is doing his best to have his agriculture students take the prize in making money on projects.

March 16, 1950

Payment of the last outstanding debt against the Girl Scout house was celebrated last Thursday evening when members of the town committee, troop leaders and their guests gathered at the new structure north of the post office for square dancing and a cakewalk.

The R.N. Campsey construction company of Denver, Colo., has submitted the low bid on construction of new rural power lines in this area, Virgil E. Estep, manager of the Big Horn Rural Electric Company, announced this week. The bid was $324,000 and will include the construction of 235 miles of line bringing electric power to 156 new members. Included in the construction, plans call for a new three-phase line from Manderson to Ten Sleep and a two-phase line from Greybull to Emblem bench.

With an estimated population of over 150 million people at the end of 1949, the population density of the continental United States reached 50 persons per square mile of land area.

March 20, 1975

The newly completed Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home will open to public inspection Sunday as an open house is held at the facility from 1 p.m. until 4 o’clock. Members of the hospital auxiliary will serve refreshments and conduct visitors on guided tours of the nursing home.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Downing have announced Saturday of this week as the date of the grand opening of their new Maverick Recreation Center. The center is located in the completely remodeled basement of the Rustler Bar building and is only a part of their major overhaul of the building.

March 17, 2000

A leaking sewer line threatened to collapse the highway in the 600 block of South Fourth Street last Friday. The problem began when a piece of tile in the 12-inch line failed.

Airman 1st Class John B. Evans has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Tex.

Carrie Frisbee, a freshman member of the Riverside Rebel Basketball team, was honored by being selected to the Northwest All-Conference team, according to Coach Cory Sova.
