March 28, 1924
Messrs. Frank Riffil and Art Burns on Monday last closed a deal by which they will take over the bulking and business of the Big &c. It was found that Mr. McNay was anxious to sell and the two bought the building and business as an investment. The business will continue under the management of Mr. Burns.
While in town on Monday with his team, Mr. Will Tillard had the misfortune to have a runaway. Near the Mountain View Hotel he was thrown out and his left shoulder was dislocated. Drs. Harris and Harris were called and he is now getting along very nicely. The trouble was due to the breaking of a single tree.

Letters to Grace McNeal, publicity director for Big Horn County chapter of the American Red Cross, contained the information that the ads composed in this office (the Basin Republican Rustler) for the funds campaign carried out in March were of such a standard that they were to be used at the National Convention of the American Red Cross.
Basin Boy Scout leaders inspected the Boy Scout building being completed north of the post office Monday night during a meeting called to discuss future plans of the council. Dean N. Wolcott, Olin Rose, Don Morris and the Rev. Floyd S. Ellison were present. The smaller of the rooms has been completed, it was reported. Plans call for the scout house to include kitchen facilities, shower and locker facilities, and a large meeting hall. The interior will be finished with sturdy shipboard walls and composition ceiling. A concrete foundation will be placed under the building this summer.

Cowboy Timber Treating Inc., will sponsor an open house at its expanded facility in Manderson on Saturday. The public is invited to call and inspect the premises between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. More than $1,000 in door prizes will be given away including half a beef. Plant tours will be conducted every hour on the hour. Baron of beef will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 o’clock.
James R. Gill has been appointed assistant county agent in Big Horn County, it was announced this week by the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees. Gill’s appointment will be come effective April 1. The new assistant county agent will work in the Basin office until June 1 when he will be placed in a branch office at Lovell, pending availability of facilities.

Riverside High School graduate Tammy Harrison, who is in her first year as a librarian at Westmoor and Roosevelt elementary schools in Scottsbluff, Nebr., has been selected by the Scottsbluff Jaycees as the 1999 Outstanding Educator. Tammy was selected for her work in rebuilding the Westmoor library after an asbestos removal project, and for reshelving more than 800 new books, reshaping library practices at Roosevelt.
A Powell firm was awarded the construction bid for Phase III of the Basin Area Water Supply System that will run distribution lines throughout the rural water district. Brandon Construction was the low bidder of $2.942 million for the project.
