September 2, 1926

The Rustler sent a perfectly nice doctor away fishing with the perfectly respectable wife of another man in its issue of last week, and all because the proofreader let the item get by with just one more “s” in it than it should have had. But it turned out all right because all of the parties concerned are good sports. 

 A team owned by Mr. Herden ran away Friday afternoon, with a beet rack and just west of the railroad track they ran off the grade. One of the horses fell and the wagon ran over its foot, inflicting a bad cut. At last reports the horse was recovering. 

Dr. C.E. Harris reports the birth of a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Burt Olson of Otto, on Wednesday.

August 30, 1951

Reconditioning of the football field south of the new high school gymnasium was begun this week. New bleachers have been ordered and plans for turfing the field next year have been made. Superintendent Robert L. Kilzer announced Wednesday that all bobcat home games have been changed to afternoon contests following the decision to use the field. Original plans called for use of the lighted field a the county fairgrounds which was used last year. Workmen have plowed the rield which will be harrowed, disked and leveled before being ready for play. The turf will be seeded next spring so as to provide a permanent grass covered athletic field for the school by the opening of the 1952 gridiron season. 

Mr. and Mrs. John Gibler are the parents of a 4-pound, 1½ -ounce son born August 24 at the Basin hospital.

September 2, 1976

An early delivery of pinto beans has been reported by Herbert House, general manager of the Big Horn Co-op. the delivery came from the Frank Zavorka farm south of Basin and is said to be a pretty good looking yield.

Although the 20-0 score was a disappointment to the Basin Bobcats, Coach Andy Johnson said he felt that his players did a respectable job defensively against the Shoshoni Wranglers which is a larger and more physical team. The coach said he was particularly pleased with the defense of Joel Juillard and Claude Craft and Dave Coronado, both of Manderson. Manderson has dropped football from its schedule this year due to lace of players and is presently getting its football experience playing with the Basin team.

August 30, 2001

76-year-old Helen Rutherford was shopping at Mountain Valley Home Center last the morning of Aug 22. After making her purchase, she went to find her sister-in-law, who was in the appliance section of the store. As Rutherford walked through the store, she noticed what she thought was a toy rubber bat lying on the floor. She started to pick it up so someone would slip on it. As she picked the bat up, by its left wing, suddenly the bat’s right wing “started to move so I dropped it.” The owner called the Basin Police Department. Meanwhile, another female customer and Rutherford grabbed a flower pot and put it over the bat, to contain it.
