Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Zaring, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. M. Hyde and Mr. Hyde and Mr. H.C. Brome, who had been over the Sheridan to attend the meeting of the State Bar Association, returned home yesterday afternoon. Mr. Zaring was honored by being elected to the presidency of the bar association and was given an ovation of which he may well be proud.

Mr. and Mrs. K.D. Russell and the children returned on Friday last after spending a week in Yellowstone park. They came back with some of the finest trout the writer has ever seen, a fine big dishpanful of speckled beauties they caught in the Yellowstone river.

June 28, 1951

A five-man Big Horn County Fair board has been named by the county commissioners to handle the 1951 fair scheduled for August 19, 20 and 21. Dr. M.B. Walker heads the board. Other members are Dr. Thomas Croft of Lovell, Mike Johnson of Byron, John Snyder of the Greybull river area and Oscar J. Deveraux of Greybull. 

The anti-insect campaign being conducted by the municipal government moved into its second phase Tuesday morning when Melvin Christler of Greybull began an aerial spraying of the town. Low-level flights were begun about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday to cover the town with a fine spray of insecticide.

Stanley Walters of Hyattville announces the engagement of His daughter, Eleanor Edith, to Merle C. Hamilton of Custer S.D. Miss Walters attended school in Hyattville and was graduated from Washakie county high school in Worland. She is a 1951 graduate of the University of Wyoming. Mr. Hamilton, a World war II veteran, is a 1950 graduate of the University of Wyoming.

July 1, 1976

The American Legion Auxiliary of Marion Tanner Unit NO. 29 of Basin wishes to urge everyone to ring bells at 11 a.m. on July Fourth for two minutes in commemoration of the Nation’s first two centuries. The Auxiliary also asks that all churches ring their bells and in the ringing of the bells, “Let freedom ring!”

Heavy rains accompanied by severe lightning and thunder swept through the central Big Horn Basin last Tuesday afternoon causing damage to property and interrupting power service in the Basin and Greybull areas. While rainfall in Basin and southward measured only half an inch, four times that amount fell in the Greybull area, according to unofficial measurements.

After many long discussions about the budget for the fiscal year, which begins July 1, Basin Town Council members hurried through the Tuesday night meeting at which the budget was actually approved. The approved budget includes raises for all town employees and covers the higher cost of insurance premiums for city workers as well. Originally, the proposed budget didn’t contain either provision.

Shirley Rannells of Basin recently returned home from the Montana Senior Olympics in Bozeman with a much heavier load than when she left. Competing in the 75-79 age group. Rannells captured two gold medals and four silver awards, placing in every event she entered.
