January 24, 1924

Mr. E.L. Pickett, manager of the local Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph Company office, who leaves about the 1st for Los Angeles, where he and Mrs. Pickett are to make their home, is to be succeeded by Mr. T.A. Pierce of Wheatland, who will arrive shortly to get in touch with the new work.
At the Denver Stock Show last week, Jack McDaniels, working with the state championship livestock judging teams, was placed as the second individual in the three states of Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico, 6 points behind the winner.
The first trip over the Yellowstone Highway through Bea Ogwa Canyon above Thermopolis, was made on Tuesday of this week, when a party of 25 automobiles, containing about 125 people, made the trip from Thermopolis through the canyon to the other side of the Owl Mountains. The party, after proceeding through to the other side, were entertained for dinner at the camp of the Utah Construction Company, where a short program of addresses was given.

The “Scout House” being erected by the Basin Girl Scout committee will be ready for occupancy as soon as two stoves, which have been ordered, arrive and are installed. Virtual completion of the project marks more than two years of effort on the part of the youth organization to establish the “Scout House,” which will form the group’s headquarters. The building is located just north of the post office.
Manderson public schools releases its third six weeks’ honor roll as follows: First Grade: Jay Allison, Barbara Lenore Arnold, and Sandra Brill. Second Grade: Diane Wiley. Third Grade: Wayne Hackney, Robert Tharp, and Sheila Wiley. Sixth Grade: Irene Eckerdt and Edith Hackney. High School: Milton Woods.

The Manderson-Hyattville High school honor roll for the third six weeks period was announced this week. Those making the “A” honor roll were Bryan Neeley, Jeff Tharp, Ross Diercks, Roalene Redland, Kenneth Hamilton, Brad Neely, Jerry Ilg, Dave Paumer, Kendrick Redland, and Penny Scott.
The Burlington School honor roll includes the following Straight-A students: Tom Loveland, Jim McNiven, and Eileen Winters. The A-honor roll includes: Roberta Heath, Kengie Jones, Marvin Hendricks, Mark Davidson, and Roger Michaels.

Lois Yoos, who was injured in a horseback accident in Basin on Jan. 12, and underwent surgery at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings to remove a blood clot from the surface of the brain, is “doing better” according to her father, Charles Pearl. Pearl and his daughter were riding horses above their residence south of Basin when she was thrown from her horse.
Sarah Bayert, Kelli Pederson, Jennifer Cooper, and Tim Hagemeister teamed up to score 615 points, enough to propel Riverside High School to first place among small schools at the Wyoming Academic Challenge Meet held at Sheridan College on Jan. 16. It also held for second place overall among 15 teams competing.
