100 years ago

March 4, 1926

The roads leading into Basin— in fact, all of the roads of the southern part of the county, except those which have been heavily graveled, are just about the worst old-timers ever saw in this section. The deep snow that has laid on the ground all of this winter, has been going off rapidly during the past week and the roads have thawed out until they are almost impassable in places. On Monday Mr. H.C. Avery was two hours in getting in from his place on the Alamo Flat. 

They tell us that the meadow larks are joyfully hearalding the coming of spring out there on Orchard Bench. We didn’t get this from Boyd Reffner, but from a very dependable member of the Methodist church, so we’ve simply got to accept it as a fact. 

75 years ago

March 1, 1951

Miss Wilora Dolezal of Cheyenne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.V. Dolezal of Basin, is amonge eight Wyoming nurses who recently completed a training course in the nursing aspects of atomic warfare. The courses were held in Denver, Colo. 

Sam Saban, Con of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Saban, won first place in the public speaking contest conducted Monday, by the Basin high school chapter of Future Farmers of America. Six boys took part in the competition. They are: Sam Saban, Bill Davis, Dennis Lyman, Franklin McNeal, Dick Cropsey and Dale Perkins.

Three top posts still remain open in the national guard unit now organizing in the Basin-Greybull area. Two of the positions offer full time employment. The unit is a fully mechanized 105-mm howitzer outfit which will be headquartered in Greybull.

50 years ago

March 5, 1976

The Basin Bobcats hosted the Wyoming Indian School from Ethete in Basin on Friday night. The Bobcats won their final game of the season with a score of 85-55. Scoring for the Basin team were Mike Dellos 31, Brian Hawk 18, Tom Pearl 10, Tadd Estes 7, Larry Herzog 6, John Neves 5, and Laine Anderson 4.  

Mr. and Mrs. Don Cherni of Basin are the parents of a daughter, Lynn Eileen, who was born February 24 in St. Vincent’s hospital in Billings, Mont. She weighed 7 lbs. 11 ounces.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Raffl have purchased approximately three acres of land on antelope creek from Del Riley.

Some 75 wild turkeys were released at four spots along the Greybull River Friday morning in a cooperative venture between the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and the northwest chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. The birds shipped to Wyoming from Oklahoma and were released as part of an effort to introduce wild turkey populations into Big Horn County, according to Tom Easterly. 

Burlington Boys Basketball team members include: Michael Winters, Ryan Cauffman, Josh Alexander, Charlie Cauffman, Jake Coble, Chance  Nelson, David Loveland, Harry McNiven, Thomas Tolman, Brad Christopherson, Lance Dobson and Whitney Neves. 

Burlington Girls Basketball team members include: Melinda Cook, Betsy Howard, Tiffany Wardell, Rebecca Cook, Melissa Cook, Jessica Mitchell, Maria McNiven, Megan Garza, Camie Preator and Erin Cook.
