December 24, 1925

Santa Claus is going to visit every child in Basin this evening between the hours of 5 and 6 o’clock. The whole program has been arranged by the committees appointed by the clubs and other organizations of Basin and plans are perfected so that no one will be overlooked. Be ready to welcome Santa Claus at your home. 

Here we are at Christmas time, and the Big Horn River has not been frozen over this winter. There is at this time but a slight fringe of ice along the edges.

Mr. B.C. Brewster of Burlington has purchased from Dave Johnson the latter’s land on the Nowood. He will move onto the new location in March and farm it the coming year.

75 years ago

December 21, 1950

Dr. Claude Raffl announced this week that the Basin clinic has moved into its new building on B Street between South Fifth and South Sixth streets. The new 14-room structure will be open to public inspection Friday and Saturday afternoons of this week, Dr. Raffl stated, and all who are interested in the clinic’s new home are cordially invited to visit the establishment. 

A large bobcat entered the henhouse on the A.J. Winkler ranch west of Basin recently and destroyed the Winklers’ entire laying flock of 65 hens. Mr. Winkler states that the bobcat entered the building through a window and was still inside when discovered the following morning. The rancher was able to destroy the animal before it could escape. 

Mr. and Mrs. William Paumer are expecting their two daughters home for the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Stevenson and Shirley Lynne of Roy, Utah, will arrive Dec. 23. Virginia, who is attending Central Business college in Denver, will arrive Dec. 22.

December 25, 1975

Patricia Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Brown and a student at the University of Wyoming, is spending the holidays in Basin. 

Ann Zaring is spending the Christmas-New Year holidays in Basin with her father James A Zaring and brother John before resuming her studies at the University of Wyoming. 

Lois Yoos, a student at Point Loma in San Diego, Calif., has arrived home for the holidays to spend them with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Pearl, and family. 

Other students spending the holidays with their families include Janet Winterholler, Steven Pearl, Nick Wilson, Randy Royal, Jill and Janis Eckerdt, Margaret and John Faure, and Becky Breining.

December 21, 2000

Jay and Camie Miller of Basin are the parents of a 6-pound, 10.6-ounce baby girl, Brittni Nicole, born at West Park Hospital in Cody. Brittni has three sisters, Angel, Devin, and Bobbi, and one brother, J.L. 

Tom Hinderliter is back doing what he loves to do — cook — and at his own café. Hinderliter purchased RJ’s in Basin from Bev and Randy Jacobs on Nov. 27 and re-opened it as “Tom’s Café” on Nov. 29. His first two weeks went “better than expected,” he says. 

A Basin man is in serious condition in the Casper hospital following an automobile accident Monday morning. John. W Hallcroft of Basin was traveling north on U.S. 16/20 shortly after 8:30 a.m. when the accident occurred approximately one mile south of Basin.
