Otto Babe Ruth team’s season ends
Otto’s Babe Ruth team wrapped up its baseball season with a tight game on the road in Thermopolis.
The Rattlers started off strong with two runs in the first inning from Will Hatch and Nicholas Worthen but Thermopolis pulled away with four of its own in the bottom of the first and added another run in the bottom of the third.
Matt Tempany had a big night on the mound with three strikeouts in the first inning, three up and three down in the second inning and three strikeouts in the third inning.
Otto did not score again until the fourth inning when Tempany was hit by the pitcher to get on base and eventually made it around to score. He held Thermopolis scoreless again in the fourth inning and had three strikeouts.
The fifth inning was big for the Rattlers who saw Joe Worthen, Rulon Andrew and Hatch scoring. “I was really proud of Rulon since this was the first time this season for him to get a hit and then make it around to score,” said Coach Janalee Call.
Those three scores put Otto ahead by one run, but Thermopolis answered with two more runs to again take the lead.
Tempany had a big hit in the sixth inning, getting a double and driving in Taft Winters to tie up the score at 7, which sent the teams into a seventh inning. “This was overtime with new rules. The inning started with the last batter from the previous inning being on second and one out,” said Call.
The Rattlers chance ended with a force out at first base and strikeout and Thermopolis took advantage and their first batter got a hit that allowed the runner on second to score and polish off the 8-7 win.
“It was a heartbreaker to lose the game, but it was a close game which we just didn’t end up on top. The kids played well and had a good time. I hope that most will be back for next season,” ended Call.
