Meet leading expert on Howe Dinosaur Quary Friday evening in Shell
The Wild West Dino Den and the Shell Bar are hosting a meet-and-greet with Dr. Emanuel Tschopp, a vertebrate paleontologist and the world’s leading expert on the Howe Dinosaur Quarry, on Friday, Sept. 5 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Dr. Tschopp is from the Institute of Geological Sciences, Freie Universität Berlin, Germany, and is a research associate with the American Museum of Natural History in New York. He has worked extensively with the dinosaur remains discovered at the Howe Quarry and named a new species from that site (Kaatedocus siberi), a close relative of Diplodocus, a long-tailed and long neck Jurassic dinosaur.
This year, Dr. Tschopp is in Shell with his colleagues, Leonie Sevens and Marc Barlage, to collect tiny, shelled microfossils to learn more about the environment in which the dinosaurs lived.
