A 36-year-old man who was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana when he damaged a car, carried an open-bladed knife into the Greybull Maverik Country Store and threatened employees and customers has been sentenced to two to five years in prison.

George Jared Peck pled guilty to a single count of felony aggravated assault and battery Jan. 21 in the Fifth Judicial District Court of Big Horn County. He had previously pled not guilty to the charge, which carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $10,000.

In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed a misdemeanor charge of property destruction and defacement.

According to the affidavit, the charges stemmed from a June 13, 2024, incident.  Police had been summoned to investigate damage to the driver’s side windshield wiper
arm and attempted damage to the driver’s side headlight of a vehicle.

The responding officer wrote in the affidavit that Peck admitted to consuming alcohol and smoking marijuana. He was “mostly cooperative’ during the interview, he continued, but at times, became “agitated and belligerent.”

A review of the Maverik’s video footage showed Peck approach the entrance with a knife, blade open, in his right hand, raise it in a threatening manner and yell at employees and customers telling them to get out of the store before slamming the knife on the counter and exiting.

A witness told police she and a friend ran out of the store’s north door when they heard Peck yelling incoherently.

Judge Bobbi Overfield sentenced Peck to two to five years with the Wyoming Department of Corrections, with credit given for 223 days served. He was also ordered to pay a $40 court automation fee, a $10 civil legal service fee, $150 into the victim’s compensation fund and a $750 ASI fee.
