Long bus ride for Riverside Middle School Football team
It was a rough Saturday in Hulett for the Riverside middle school boys. Between a bus ride that felt like it took all day, guys battling sickness, and a couple of nagging injuries, the Rebels just could not get their feet under them early on. Hulett took full advantage. The Red Devils came out firing and took the opening kickoff straight to the house, putting Riverside in a hole before they even had a chance to blink.
The team figured things out at halftime and got thing going. The second half looked like two completely different teams showed up. The defense finally figured out Hulett’s offense and slowed them down, while Riverside’s offense finally started moving the chains.
Kobe Winters broke things open late in the third quarter with a monster 38-yard run that woke everyone up. Right at the start of the fourth, Parker Callier finished the job, punching it in from six yards out (the PAT kick missed, but the momentum continued). Winters wasn’t done, either, as he spent the rest of the quarter darting through defenders, capping off his day with a 30-yard touchdown scamper. Mason Spolini bulled his way into the end zone for the two-point conversion to finish out the scoring.
The scoreboard ended 45-13, and a loss is never fun, but the Rebs didn’t quit. Haakon Craft and Sawyer Triplett, in particular, played hard all four quarters.
Scoring Summary:
4th Qtr: Parker Callier 6-yard run (Kick failed)
4th Qtr: Kobe Winters 30-yard run (Mason Spolini 2-pt run)
