Letter to the Editor: The Republican party needs write in candidates

Dear Editor,

Let’s talk Elections.

In April of this year, the Republican party held State Convention in Douglas, Wyo. They had 310 citizens attend. In their infinite knowledge, they decided that candidates need to agree with 80% of their platform to be a candidate they could support. They also decided that they should pick the best candidate and support this candidate all through the election. This one candidate is the one everyone should vote for.  It would be even better if he or she will support the Freedom Caucus. Even when state statute says you are not to support one candidate until after the primary election. Why should they follow the law?

I recently asked the Big Horn County Republican Committee why they were not doing a state candidate meet and greet. I was told they did a Lincoln Day dinner in Emblem, and if you missed it, oh well.

I then asked, what if you could not afford tickets to attend? This was answered, figure it out. It seems a major portion of these candidates don’t know Big Horn County even exists. So, the committee that is supposed to represent us in the party doesn’t care. I was also told the candidates would not come to a meet and greet in Big Horn County, but they have not even asked them

Also, I am not aware if you know Park County just issued a slate of candidates they selected as the correct candidates to vote for. They sent a survey to candidates to see if you support 80% of platforms, many did not return this, many were not sent the purity survey.

They held their election and it was very interesting. Their tellers committee consisted of three people, one a candidate running for commissioner, one teller’s husband is running for county clerk, and a third committee person. No conflict in that counting. Guess who were two of the candidates that went on the preferred slate? Yes, the Park County commissioner and the husband of county clerk candidate. I was told, oh, it doesn’t matter. First, this is the group that wants hand-counted ballots as the machine cheat.  I have yet to be shown a ballot where the machine changed how it was voted. I have yet to see where a ballot was counted twice in Wyoming. But they hand counted maybe 100 to 125 ballots, and mistakes were made. So, should we hand count and let the candidates count? When their candidates lose, the blame will be on the machine again.

We need to take back our Republican party. To do this, in August, write in names to replace the people on the committee. Ask your friends, neighbors, yourself, what can I do this to improve this group?

Write in the names have four or five people for committee men and woman, one or two in smaller towns. Let’s change this party back to common sense.
