Letter to the Editor: Let the investigation play out before you condemn

Dear editor:

This letter is in response to Steve Helburn’s letter (in the Feb. 5, 2026, issue) in regard to the county working with ICE.

When I lay down with my dog, I feel comfort and love. By the actions of my dog, I think she feels the same thing. When I get up, I feel safe and secure. The look in her eyes tells me she feels the same way.

In reading the letter several times, I have not found any true facts, anywhere.

In regard to the videos, a 10-second video watched 40 times does not make it a six-minute video. It means you watched a 10-second video 40 times. Nothing changes. You still don’t know what happened in the minutes before or after the video. All you have is a 10-second video. Let the investigation play out before you condemn so harshly.

Sheriff Blackburn sees that working with ICE has the possibility to help the residents of the county and also help his department. He is asking for guidance from the other departments and the county commission.

Also, I want to clarify, the headlines of my letter to the editor (Feb. 5, 2026 issue) were not mine. I did not say don’t trust Democrats. I did say do your own research.
