Letter to the Editor: Be loyal to your values, not your political party

Dear Editor:

I was heartened when Wyomingites voted Freedom Caucus candidates off the ballot in the August primary election. We felt the harm they inflicted on everyday people, and we used the primary election to send them a “hell no” message.

Unfortunately, three notable exceptions stood out: Harriet Hageman, Chuck Gray, and Dalton Banks. Make no mistake, these three candidates endorse the Freedom Caucus agenda. All three have voted for bills that reduce public lands, harm public education, diminish access to healthcare and health insurance, and reduce workers’ rights. So, while other Freedom Caucus candidates were voted off the ballot, these three appear to take their orders from Washington, D.C., not from their constituents in Wyoming.

I realize that many voters are tried and true to their political party. However, at this time in American history, I implore you to disregard political parties and put your loyalty toward Wyoming values: honor and integrity, fairness, hard work, polite culture, and respect for the land. That is why we must cast our vote for individuals who will stand up for those values and listen to us, their constituents.

In this upcoming general election, candidates are running for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and Wyoming House District 26 to represent Wyoming values in our government. They will listen to their constituents’ concerns. Therefore, I believe the Democratic candidates more effectively represent the interests of Wyomingites.

Don’t take my word for it. Search online for each candidate. The truth is in their voting and bill sponsorship records.

We booted out the Freedom Caucus once; we can do it again and finish the job!
