Lady Rebels going to State

For the second straight year, the Riverside Lady Rebels have qualified for the State 1A Basketball Championships later this week at the Ford Wyoming Center, Casper College and Natrona County High School.

This past weekend, the Rebels were at Class 1A West Regional in Lander.They entered as the No. 2 seed from the Northwest. In their opening rounder, the Rebels lost to Farson-Eden, 45-34. That placed them in the losers bracket and their next game was against St. Stephens the following day.  The Rebels overwhelmed St. Stephens, 62-20.

Winning over the Lady Eagles put the Rebels against Little Snake River the following day to remain in competition. The Lady Rebels were down 27-19 at the half. By the end of the third, the Rebels were down 34-30 and closing in. It was an exciting one-point game with the Lady Rebels defeating the Rattlers and sending them home. They had secured their spot for going to State. The final score was 42-41.

With only one game to go, they were vying for third place against Farson-Eden who they’d lost to in game one. In the first quarter against the Lady Pronghorns, the Rebels were down by one point. By the half they were up by eight points. The Lady Rebels were up by seven points at the end of the third quarter and never let up, beating the Lady Pronghorns 41-32, clinching a third place spot at state.

The Lady Rebels will face Upton, the No. 2 seed from the East, at 9 a.m. today (Thursday, March 6).
