Lady Huskies win two at home

The Lady Huskies picked up two conference wins this week at home against Riverside and Meeteetse. 

On Friday, Burlington came together and defeated Riverside in 3 games. “The game went well,” said Coach Natoshia Heaton. “I was impressed with how the girls maintained their focus and didn’t lower their standard of play. When the gym gets quiet and energy lacks, it is common for players/teams to start playing with less enthusiasm and lower their level of play. The girls didn’t fall into this trap and for me, that stands out as a mark of an exceptional team.”

Cambria Wicke led from the serving line, going 10/10 with 2 aces and Kate Preator went 10/11 with 1 ace. Overall, the Lady Huskies were an impressive 90% on their serves. Sarah McNiven and Madison Aagard dominated on the net. McNiven had 9 kills and Aagard had 7. 

Friday with Meeteetse was a little more stressful for the Lady Huskies. “We did end up winning in three, but it didn’t come without its challenges. Set two in particular was sketchy. We missed several serves and it was close to being the factor that changed the outcome of the set. However, with perseverance and grit, they came out the victors and then leveled up their play to finish off set 3 with less problems.” 

Adison Haslam went 17/18 from the serving line with 2 aces and McNiven went 9/13 with 4 aces. As a team, the Lady Huskies were 83% from the serving line. McNiven also led the net with 18 kills. 

Burlington is using all of their games as chances to learn and grow. “Games that challenge us are great opportunities for me as a coach to learn. I can clearly see the things we need to focus on and how to adapt to the mental game of coaching. I hope that each player takes the opportunity to learn from it as well,” said Heaton. 

The Lady Huskies will travel to Thermopolis for the Western Wyoming Volleyball Challenge on Friday and Saturday.
