With only two conference games on the schedule, it was a quiet week for the Lady Huskies as they hit the midway point of the season.

“The end of the season is quickly approaching and we are feeling the urgency to prepare for the postseason,” said Coach Erin Bassett. “Our region is going to be extremely competitive this year so we are going to have to create opportunities to push us to be ready. As we speak, we are undefeated in our conference and plan on staying that way.”

Burlington hosted St. Stephens on Thursday, who they dispatched in three quick games, 25-8, 25-6, 25-13. “We had the opportunity to mix it up a little in this match and give some of the JV players some varsity minutes. Our JV team works really hard and it is so awesome to be able to confidently put them in and prepare them for the next level. Orabella Heaton and Kate Preator are both great defenders in the back row and did a nice job passing the ball for us that night. Olivia Oilar and Hannah Stanworth are both good all-around players and competed well in the front row.”

Saturday, the Lady Huskies traveled to Dubois in their second conference matchup of the week. “The JV played first and confidently put them away. Our JV team has four freshmen, two sophomores and two juniors. Our freshmen, Madison Aagard, Sophie Olson, Rae Chatwin and Jamie Taylor, are doing awesome. There is a big jump from eighth grade volleyball to JV volleyball (we rarely get to play true freshmen games) and they have taken it in stride. We see improvement every game and look forward to working with them for the rest of their high school careers,” said Bassett.

The varsity girls won the first two games, 25-14 and 25-17, lost the third game, 24-26, and won the final game, 25-18. “They maybe got a little lax in the third set and let them sneak by. We were able to refocus and win the fourth set. It was a good exercise in staying focused and determined.”

The Lady Huskies are celebrating Homecoming week this week and will face Meeteetse on Friday with JV at 5 and the varsity at 7 p.m.
