Husky football ends regular season with a win
The Burlington Huskies wrapped up the regular season with a win against Dubois on the road. “It was good for us to face a quality opponent before playoffs start,” said Coach Trent Aagard. “Dubois is well coached and has some real athletes. For them it was a very emotional game as it was Coach Trembly’s last game coached in Dubois after 27 years. His team played hard for him. For us, it was good for some of our older guys to get back at it after a week off.”
Offensively, Joe Bassett led the way with three touchdowns, Jordan Casey and Hunter Aagard had two apiece and Jordan Michaels and Weston Gotfredson each had one in the 67-46 win for the Huskies. They racked up the yardage with over 500 yards rushing and passing. “I felt we were able to move the ball pretty wel,” said Aagard. “We had a few opportunities slip away from us and some other things we need to clean up this week, but our guys played hard. We got contributions from a lot of kids. When we get that, we can be hard to defend because the other team can’t focus on a few players. We were pretty balanced for this game and had some big plays through the air.”.
“On defense, we did a pretty good job containing them. Their running back Wyatt Trembly is as good of an athlete as there is in the state and they had some big plays, but we were able to get some big stops when we needed to,” said Aagard.
Leading the way for the Huskies were Bassett with 11 tackles and Jordan Michaels with 9 tackles.
“It’s good to ride into the playoffs with a hard-fought win. This week we face Farson, who we played a couple of weeks ago. Even though we won that game, we can’t overlook them. They are a good team, but are a little short in numbers. This time of year, you can’t look past anyone or you will find yourself out of the race and all the work we put in is gone,” ended Aagard.
The Huskies will host Farson-Eden on Friday for the first round of play-offs, with kickoff at 2 p.m.
