Huskies win against the Rebels at home

The Huskies took on Riverside at home on Friday, beating out the Rebels with a final score of 62-15. “Over the years playing Riverside, is often a physical, emotionally draining game. Riverside is well coached and they play a very physical type of football. It was unfortunate for them that injuries from the previous week and early in this game took some of their more experienced players out. I have no doubt they will bounce back and have a better season,” said Coach Trent Aagard. 

“For our team, I thought we had a good focus and preparation going into this game. For the most part, we were able to keep our emotions under control, which can be big in these rivalry games.” 

Defensively, Burlington had 34 tackles and held the Rebels to 15 points. “We did a good job up front and allowed our secondary to flow and clean things up. A few pass reps were off, but I thought we got better as the game progressed. I thought everyone who played especially in the first half executed well. If we can keep improving on the little things, I like where we are headed.” 

Offensively, the Huskies had 252 yards with 197 of those on the ground. Asher Loveland, Kole Walker, and Matt Tempany each had two touchdowns and Parker Cook and Rulon Andrew added in one a piece. “Our blocking game came along. Our backfield did a pretty good job of finding the holes and carrying the ball. It was a windy game, so throwing early was questionable, but I liked the way we improved in that area as the game progressed. I think having kids who really understand what we are trying to accomplish each week has been a huge help for us, and some of our newer guys in the program are starting to catch on. 

Overall, I was happy with the way we played, we have things we need to clean up and improve at. Every week brings a different test, so we will need to make sure we stay focused on what we need to do to be successful,” said Aagard. 

Burlington will head to Ten Sleep on Saturday, with Middle School kicking off at noon and High School at 2:00 p.m.

RUSHING – Burlington 29-197 (Carson Schlenker, 4-65; Kole Walker, 7-62 and 2 touchdowns). PASSING – Burlington 8-of-10 for 55 yards (Walker, 5-of-7 for 36 yards). RECEIVING – Asher Loveland, 1 catch for 18 yards and 1 TD. Cole Gotfredson, 1 catch for 17 yards. Parker Cook, 1 catch for 13 yards and 1 TD. 

DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS – Matt Tempany led the Huskies with 18 points (2 solo tackles, 4 assisted tackles and 2 interceptions), followed by Walker with 11 points (2 solo tackles, 3 assisted, 1 forced fumble and .5 tackle for loss and .5 sack) and Chase Bassett with 10 points (3 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles and 1 pass break up).
