From The Huddle: Season finale & playoff bound!
We closed out the regular season on a high note with a dominant 56-7 win over Ten Sleep, finishing our regular season campaign with a strong 5-2 record.
Although we started the game off a bit sluggish on offense. Early penalties and turnovers cut off several of our drives short. Our defense was on point right from the opening kickoff and didn’t allow a single first down the entire first half.
In the second half, our offense bounced back and opened things up in a big way on the ground. Jaxson Womack led the charge, racking up 202 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground while adding a 16-yard receiving touchdown. Corbyn Godfrey contributed 92 rushing yards and a touchdown. Zack Kuntz hauled in two receptions for 40 yards and a score. Both Brian Lee Anderson and Gavyn Cervantes made key plays through the air, throwing one passing touchdown each.
On the defensive side of the ball, we were led by a relentless group of seniors who controlled the game throughout. Corbyn Godfrey anchored the effort with 11 tackles, including four for a loss. Alan Landis was a force upfront with seven tackles, three for a loss, and two sacks, while Zack Kuntz matched him with seven tackles, three for a loss, and two sacks. Gavyn Cervantes added six tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery to complete a stellar defensive performance.
With this victory, we have secured the #2 seed in the North and will take on the Encampment Tigers next Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the first round of the Wyoming six-man football playoffs.
While Encampment doesn’t have high numbers, the players they do have are very athletic, with plenty of speed and toughness. We will need to pack those stands at Jim Gibbs Field and have our community ready to be the extra man on the field for us.
Let’s get ready to help our boys win this first round matchup and keep us playing in November for a shot to go to Laramie. It all starts here, and we hope to see everyone there to cheer us on. Go Rebels!
