From the huddle: Riverside vs. Hulett
As we hit the second half of the season, our coaching staff spent all week talking with the boys about finding momentum as we look ahead toward the playoffs.
We knew we had a test in front of us with a long, five hour bus ride east to take on the Hulett Red Devils, but instead of letting road rust settle in, our team played their absolute best football of the season and came away with a dominant 59-14 road victory.
Offensively, we did a tremendous job running the football and racked up 309 yards on the ground. Jaxson Womack led the charge with an explosive 166 yards and four touchdowns on just nine carries. Corbyn Godfrey added 67 yards on 6 carries with 2 touchdowns, while Kenneth McClure chipped in 11 rushing yards and a touchdown, along with two receptions for 39 yards and another score.
Defensively, we dominated up front from the very first whistle and did not allow the Red Devils a single first down in the entire first half. Senior linebacker Corbyn Godfrey led the Rebels with 13 tackles and three tackles for loss. While Alan Landis added 9 tackles, a tackle for loss, and a key punt block.
Our defensive ends are really starting to play good football up front, as Jaxson Womack, Kenneth McClure, Xandar Dannar, and Dawson Scott did a fantastic job bottling up Hulett’s backs and eliminating contain problems on the edge.
Looking ahead, we return home this Friday for our Military Appreciation Game against Midwest. The Middle School game kicks off at 12:00 p.m. followed by the Varsity game at 2:00 p.m.
We will be taking the field in our brand-new Military Appreciation Jerseys, which our team fundraised for, to show our deep gratitude for our veterans and those currently serving our great country.
We invite the whole community to come out, cheer on our boys, and help us recognize our nation’s heroes. Go Rebels!
