Head scratchers for my Republican friends

Dear Editor:

Here are a couple head scratchers for my dear Republican friends. Are you aware that Wyoming and the Republican governors of 14 states turned down bipartisan funding for low-income families to have extra EBT money for the summer?

Now for the life of me, I cannot understand why we turned down money to feed low-income children.  Does our governor and Republican party believe that we don’t have children that need that nutrition? Are they saying that poor children do not need to have food security during the summer months?

Remember, many of these children eat breakfast and lunch at school. When school is out, are we saying, “Sorry, because of political reasons you must go hungry — never mind that it was a bipartisan deal back in 2022, fully funded.

Even then, Republicans saw the need for children of low income to have substance in the summer, but I guess it is not anymore.  Maybe they just want to pretend it doesn’t exist. You know, put your head in the sand.

Unfortunately, in Wyoming we will have hungry children this summer. I mean really, you are going to deny food to children? I guess cruelty is the point, knowing that children in Wyoming will go hungry because of political reasons.  Shame.

We have all watched the situation at the southern border.  Rep. Scalise reportedly said the bipartisan Senate bill is DOA. Speaker Johnson said, “Congress can’t solve border problems until Trump is elected or a Republican is back in the White House.”

OK, so as a country, we do nothing for a year?  Really? Remember, the Republicans cut 2,000 border patrol jobs, cut funding and I guess now are just going to do nothing and complain.

So, let me get this straight: no food for children and do nothing about the border. Oh, and we want to control women.  Do you know in Texas and Idaho, if you present say from a tubal pregnancy and you need a life-saving abortion, they can turn you down? Maybe a car accident, maybe something just went wrong. In those states, they don’t have to save your life.

Of course, if you die, so will the pregnancy, so in the case of mothers, life is now off the table. I wonder how fast they will take rape and incest off the table. They don’t have to save your life.  Really.  Respectfully,

Lynn Meier
