Geneva Murle Shoemaker Preis
Feb. 5, 1915 – Nov. 17, 2015Funeral services for Geneva Preis were held at Zion Lutheran Church in Emblem, Wyo., on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, at 2 p.m.Geneva, 100, passed away in her sleep at the Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home on Nov. 17, 2015. She was born Feb. 5, 1915, in Greybull, the third child of May Dot and George Shoemaker.Geneva attended high school in Greybull where she graduated in 1932. She attended the University of Wyoming for one year and then married John Adam Preis, Jr. on Oct. 15, 1933. They lived on the farm in Emblem where Adam farmed until his death in 1994. Geneva continued to live on the farm until it was necessary for her to move to Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home where she lived until her death.Geneva was a very accomplished, self-taught piano and organ player who loved music and taught all her children and family to love it too. She was the church organist at Zion Lutheran Church for over 50 years when she retired to aid her husband when he became sick. She also loved gardening and growing flowers which she often displayed at church.She was preceded in death by her husband, Adam; their infant son, Paul; her parents, George and May Dot Shoemaker; her sister, Helen (Jack) Turner; brother, Oscar Shoemaker; sister, Fern (Walt) Preis; and niece, Patra Preis.Survivors include her daughters, Janet Parrott of Denver, Colo., and Joan Meier of Phoenix, Ariz., and her son, John (Nancy) Preis who lives on the family farm in Emblem; her grandchildren, Elizabeth (Chet) Mostue, and Clark Parrott, both of Denver, Colo.; Scott (Kathy) Meier of Cheyenne, Wyo., Celia (Gary) Ando of Phoenix, Ariz., Doug (Kimberly) Meier of Sheridan, Wyo.; J. Gordon (Karen) Preis, Jr. of Emblem, Wyo., and Jerold (Jenni) Preis of Burlington, Wyo.; 13 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by nephew, George (Beverly) Preis of Lovell, Wyo., and niece, Donna (Paul) Hanselmann of Greeley, Colo.; along with their children and grandchild. She also has many dear friends who will greatly miss her.Interment was held at the Emblem Cemetery followed by a meal at the church social rooms.
