Facing a $20,000 cut in state funding, Big Horn County Crisis and Referral Emergency Service (C.A.R.E.S.) has announced plans for a Saturday afternoon fundraiser in the Greybull park.

Luz Hernandez, executive director, said the organization will be serving carnitas with beans and rice along with authentic salsas and drinks for $20 a plate.

Serving begins at 1 p.m. and will continue until the food is gone.

Donations will be accepted as well.

Hernandez said that while C.A.R.E.S. is accustomed to the ups and downs associated with state funding, the organization is struggling to make up for the loss of $20,000.

“We have had to cut a lot of stuff,” she said, adding that if the fundraiser is successful, they’ll plan another one.  They’re also open to suggestions from the public.

C.A.R.E.S. a crisis intervention service that serves victims of all crime, including domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Hernandez said the organization has a caseload of approximately 26 in Big Horn County and assists them by monitoring court proceedings and providing money to cover other expenses.
