Burlington Middle School track and field wrap up season

Middle School track wrapped up their season with the Big Horn Conference Meet on Saturday the 9th and the Best of the Best Competition in Lander on Tuesday the 12th.

“We had a really talented and fun team this season,” said Coach Stephanie Tolman. “We had a big team with 45 athletes who liked to compete and who were consistently looking to improve. 20 of those athletes were 8th graders, who made a big impact this year on our team. Track is a great sport to work on the team level but allows athletes to compete individually. We really celebrate personal records or PRs and each week we had the majority of the team celebrating at least one PR, if not more, in their events.”

Eight school records were broken this season. Cambria Wicke broke the 400 meter, 100 hurdles and 200 hurdles, Tilly Neves and Stella Davidson tied for a new Pole Vault record and Addison Brunko, Coley Ellison, Wicke and Ella Mayorga broke the 4X100 relay. Brooklyn Winters, Ellison, Wicke and S. Davidson broke the 800 Medley relay record, Madison Davidson, Winters, S. Davidson, Wicke broke the 4X400 and Riggin Harris, Spencer Hamilton, Will Preator and Jaxon Buck broke the boys 4X400 record. “It was really fun to see these athletes clear out some of those old records. A few were more recent but some were there from the 90’s and needed to get broken and updated.”

The team competed well at Conference, on the girls’ side the C team took 4th with just 5 girls, the 7th graders took 2nd and the 8th grade took 2nd. On the boys’ side, the C team took 2nd, the 7th grade team took 5th with just 3 boys and the 8th grade took 2nd place. “We had a really strong showing at the Conference meet. We had some rain and lightning that postponed the meet for about an hour and half but the kids came back, ready to compete. Those that qualified for Best of the Best, also had a nice showing. It’s always great to see our 1A athletes perform and make the podium in Lander against all that tough competition.

We will be sad to see our 8th graders go, they have been a fun and dedicated group. I imagine they will continue to be successful in high school with the determination and athleticism that they’ve shown throughout their Middle school careers. We do continue to have great athletes come through the program, and have a great batch coming up with fantastic attitudes and a drive to succeed, so we’re looking forward to next year,” said Tolman.
