Burlington Huskies battle Midwest Oilers

With the Huskies scoring on their first drive up the field, the Oilers scoring on the kickoff, the Huskies scoring on the next kickoff and interceptions from each team, it looked like the game in Midwest on Friday would be a battle of possessions. Burlington settled into their game however and owned the remainder of the time.

“Midwest had some good athletes, but they were young. They have a new coaching staff and getting used to the 6-man game can take a little time,” said Coach Trent Aagard. “In these lopsided games, it can be hard to know what we need to take from it and what we need to buckle down and work on.”

Offensively, the Huskies had a massive 419 yards with Chase Bassett getting 4 touchdowns, Kole Walker, Carsten Schlenker and Chase Allen getting 2 touchdowns a piece and Dilam Perez and Parker Cook bringing in one each. “It was a bit of a question who and what we would have going into this game, so I had a little indigestion about how the game would play out, but I thought we came out hungry and ready to play. We tried a few things during this game that we haven’t done much of this year with mixed results. Kole Walker ran tough and was a challenge for them to deal with. We did a better job of catching the ball this weekend, which was good. Our line had some different faces on it, but I thought we did a good job blocking.”

On defense, Burlington had 41 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles. “On defense, we also had some different faces out there, but I thought we did a good job of containing their athletes. We did a great job of turning them over in this game and setting up our offense in good positions.

Later in the game our young guys went and executed as good as they have all season, so that was also a positive for us. I thought our guys were a little angry after the loss in Montana. Their focus and intensity was up all week in practice. We need to keep that edge to our team,” said Aagard.

Burlington will host Hulett on Friday for Senior Night and the Homecoming game with the Middle School kicking off at 11 a.m. and the varsity at 1:00 p.m.
