Burlington High School exceeds expectations

Burlington High School joined 11 other schools recognized by the Wyoming Department of Education for meeting the benchmark of maintaining Exceeding Expectations for three rating periods (2018-19, 2021-22, 2022-23). 

School performance ratings are determined by student growth, readiness, achievement, equity, English language proficiency, postsecondary readiness, graduation rates and credits earned. 

With Covid affecting schools in 2019-20 and 2020-21, those years ratings were not given out and the Wyoming Department of Education noted that those 12 schools met Exceeding Expectations designated prior to Covid and saw no decrease through those two years. 

In the Department of Education’s School Performance records, Burlington High School has actually earned the Exceeding Expectations honor since the 2017-18 school year. 

In a letter to the teachers and staff at Burlington Schools, Principal Autumn Tempany said “BHS is listed as one of only three schools in Wyoming who have earned ‘Exceeding Expectations’ ratings (which is the highest rating you can receive) on the state’s accountability reports for 6 years in-a-row.”

Burlington Middle School has earned a Meeting Expectations level since 2017-18 and Burlington Elementary received Exceeding Expectations for the years 2017-18 and 2018-19 and Meeting Expectations since then.  

“These consistent results speak volumes about our school as a whole Pre-K-12 system. What you are doing matters. The art of helping students to believe that hard work and grit will pay future dividends is to be commended and each and everyone of you play a vital part in that process. Thank you for your efforts each and every day to make students feel seen and heard and safe here in school,” said Tempany.
