Burlington Harriers place in Lander

Despite being a tough course, the Huskies ran well in Lander on Friday with the Middle School boys taking third and the High School boys taking fourth overall.

Burlington is just past the midpoint of the season and they are putting in some hard workouts. “We’re definitely in the heart of the season,” said Coach Ryan Olson. “We’re working hard and the kids have responded well. We’ve been focusing on volume these past couple of weeks, with some hills sprinkled in. I think it showed in Lander, which has some of the most challenging climbs we see all year.”

Kellen Winters had the overall top time at the meet, taking 1st against 106 other runners. “He’s running really strong these days and has an excellent chance at repeating as state champion. Connor Hoyt wasn’t far behind, running a solid race.

I was impressed this week with Spencer Hamilton. He always works hard in practice and runs really smart races. It was fun to see Hyrum McNiven run this week too. He’s a state champion triple jumper in track, but distance running is totally different, and he’s been excited to develop that skill as well.”

The Middle School was also competing in Lander, with the boys team placing third. “They’re the smallest team out there, by size and numbers, but they’re a quick bunch of boys, and are always determined to run their hardest. Phoebe Knapp and Vanessa Winters show that same determination on the girls’ side.”

With just 3 meets left until Conference, the Huskies are focused and looking forward. “This is a great team; they have fun together and put in all the necessary work to improve each week,” said Olson.

Both Middle School and High School will run together again this week in Worland. With Middle school races starting at 2 and high school boys running at 3:30 p.m.
