Burlington Harriers compete in Worland

The Burlington Huskies competed in their second to last regular season meet in Worland on Thursday.
Howard McNiven placed in the top 10 of the meet in the varsity boys’ division, followed closely by Paul McNiven, Connor Hoyt, James Bassett, Levi Wardell and Bruce McNiven. All finishing within three minutes of each other. “It’s so nice to have boys with similar times that can challenge each other every day at practice and at meets. They really bring out the best in each other,” said Coach Ryan Olson. Wardell and Bassett each finished with personal best times.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Huskies were running with a full team for the first time. “Cadence Schlenker has been working hard to get in shape to become our fourth scorer. I’m so proud of her and Joey Chatwin, these girls are normally sprinters during track season but they’ve made themselves into good distance runners in order to help our team this year,” said Olson.
In the middle school boys’ race, Kellen Winters continued his undefeated winning streak, finishing with another personal best time. “It’s too bad he’s only in seventh grade, with his times this year, he would certainly place well at the high school postseason meets this month,” said Olson.
Olson also wanted to highlight his two middle school girls runners, Kelli and Natalie McNiven. “They ran really well. Those girls, along with the middle school boys, have done all the workouts with the high school team this year. They came every day to practice with smiles and great attitudes. It will be fun to watch them continue to run these next few years.”
The Huskies will all be in Powell on Friday for the last regular season high school meet and for the middle school conference Meet.
