Burlington to celebrate ‘Christmas in Whoville’
Burlington’s community Christmas celebration will start Saturday at 2 p.m. with treats and prizes at multiple stations around the Whoville Winter Wonderland. Hot chocolate and free carriage rides around town will be offered. Organizer Pauline Parker suggested starting at the Cindy Lou Booth: “It will be right next to the Whoville Dollar Store, just south of the Country Store and you can pick up your free bag with tickets for all the free things available.”
Yellowstone Archery will be offering 30% off items and a free take home craft kit. Right next door in the little cabin will be a silent auction full of gift baskets and goodies. Little Shoppers for children 14 and under can be found inside Town Hall. Each child can purchase up to five wrapped gifts for $2 each and make sure to go to the Fire Hall for a free book from the Dory Cauffman Memorial Library. There will also be a live Nativity at Gormley’s barn during the day.
At 5 p.m. the Whoville feast and prize drawings will be held in the Auxiliary Gym at Burlington Schools. Everyone is invited to bring a salad or dessert or enjoy dinner for $5. Music will be provided by the high school band and choir.
The celebration will end with the lighted parade held at 6:30 with a meet-and-greet with Santa to follow.
“We are still in need of volunteers. There will be a middle school basketball tournament during the day, so especially setting up tables and chairs for the dinner and entries are still accepted for the light parade with gift cards going to the winning floats, so get them ready,” said Parker.
“We also want to thank those who have donated and the kids and people who have helped decorate the fences. It takes a large effort to get this done.”
